Re: Possible issue with a car mechanic (car A/C refill)

Most likely a cracked hose. Any decent mechanic knows how to check for it.

Re: Possible issue with a car mechanic (car A/C refill)

As a former colleague said: AC is also a safety item, as the warmth can cause somnolence and distraction!

I agree that it is nice driving with open windows through a nice and slow mountain landscape, but those open windows do not work if you are stuck on a congested Autobahn with kids in the car.

Very happy we got our AC fixed last summer!

It's most likely a leak but source could be any number of things. You are now able to go to your mechanic with a more fully defined problem. They can use a dye in the gas to identify where the leak came from. This might even have been in the gas when you go your refill, which means you could get a rapid detail diagnosis. The dye would be UV so don't expect to see it with the naked eye. You need a UV torch, and eye protection. Possible/likely leak sources include:

* Dryer;
* Condenser (hole);
* Rubber seal on high pressure line where connection is made to condenser;
* Worn/holed high/low pressure line.
