Fitting a tow bar to VW Multivan T6

Fitting a tow bar to VW Multivan T6, Year 2019

Have you done it recently?

Shall I go to Amag or another route?

Re: Fitting a tow bar to VW Multivan T6

check with Amag that having a 3rd party do it won't invalidate your warranty, if you have reversing sensors etc they need to recalibrate them, which means hooking it up to their computer, which they get funny about if someone else does it.

Can't talk for AMAG..

But a couple of weeks ago I asked my local BMW/Mini dealer about fitting one for me, on our CountryMan.

2500chf they quoted.

Re: Fitting a tow bar to VW Multivan T6

That's actually cheap.

Retrofitting a full tow bar (as opposed to one just for bikes) is often so expensive that it's more economic to sell the car and buy a new one.

The newer the car, the more it usually costs.

Various computers in the car also need to "know" that a tow-bar is installed (ESP, ABS, cameras, sensors), which requires lots of cabling and programming.

Re: Fitting a tow bar to VW Multivan T6

Any competent garage can do it.

Ours is an older Ford, so CHF 800 including parts.

Re: Fitting a tow bar to VW Multivan T6

In 2016 I ordered a removable Westfalia towbar from www.kupplung.de for my MB Viano, had it delivered it to my Paketshop address in Germany, and fitted it myself. No big deal...

Total costs : 309 Euro

MFK a few weeks later was no issue, but i had to accept a 750 Kg max towing load iso the 1500 that it actually has. They could not figure out which was which...

And then in 2020 these *tards in the official MB Dealership charged me 60 CHF for "serviceing" said towbar....

Re: Fitting a tow bar to VW Multivan T6

I had one installed in my Volvo XC90... quotes below are parts+labor:
Volvo Dealer CH = CHF 1800
Volvo Dealer DE = CHF 1050 (incl. VAT refund)

Independent garages may offer lower prices, just make sure that they have the capability to "re-program" the car else your rear sensors will go bonkers.

Even cheaper is to order and install it yourself. Then bring the car to a garage for re-programming.

250 quid done in england. Its just one of those Swiss / Authorized Dealer Specials where they try to take you to the cleaners. It's a pity really because it only makes you more determined not to use official dealers.
