Have any non-US citizens flown to the USA recently?

Unfortunately, my elderly mom living in America with dementia is fading fast and if I don't visit her soon she will either not know who I am, or will be gone altogether. I gave up my US pass a long time ago, and only have a Swiss one now. Has anyone in a similar situation been granted permission to fly to the USA recently?

Call your airline. They will know the rules ...

Sorry to hear about your mom. If the CDC website is to be believed, you should be able to fly as early as the 14th or 15th if needed without too many hassles in terms of quarantine. The airlines should also have a sense of what's going on, and you can also call the U.S. Embassy if it's really an emergency. Remember to get your ESTA.

I called Swiss International Airlines to ask. They told me they don't know and can't advise me, and that I should contact the US Embassy.

Calling the US Embassy resulted in a recorded message version of musical chairs. No person picked up, and each prompt emphasized that they only help US citizens. So no help.

I keep track of this all of the time because we are American but we don't want to quarantine. As of 14 September, it is still forbidden for the following countries to go to the US at all, let alone with quarantine:

I read that children of US Citizens have special status. But it looks like it will be difficult to figure out what that is, and it probably changes daily.

Yes, but you have to be a child under the age of 21. I am betting that you are older than that, yes?

On the link that I gave you, there is a click link to exceptions. Just click on it and it explains the rules for children. (And all other exceptions.)

Donít call the Embassy but write them instead. Iíve had good experiences doing this in the past

Thanks. From your link I could only find this exemption:

(v) any alien who is the child, foster child, or ward of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, or who is a prospective adoptee seeking to enter the United States pursuant to the IR-4 or IH-4 visa classifications;

Doesn't matter. I just talked to my brother who lives near her. He tells me she wouldn't recognize who I am at this point anyway

Re: Have any non-US citizens flown to the USA recently?

Sorry to hear about your situation.

I also looked into this, just in case, having elderly mother there. And non-US children here

I still retained US citizenship and previously decided I would keep until mother passes because I don't want to be caught in an emergency, this was several years ago before covid. Thought I might someday need extended stay beyond three months in case failing health or multiple entries in short time. Never would I have predicted covid situation and possible non-entry.

But I looked at it recently in case, and realised I could go but not adult children. Even minor children require exception which is probably a hassle so I'm keeping fingers crossed that an emergency won't happen during these trying times because there is no solution for my family situation as far as I know.

Re: Have any non-US citizens flown to the USA recently?

definitely write to the Embassy or call them even though they say they only help US citizens you could still leave a voice message and leave your name date of birth and contact info I think they will get back to you or email always work and be careful sometimes their reply email may go to the spam folder because some server like Gmail they would say they cannot verify state.gov

Good luck.

it should be possible for you to travel to the US now (you need to find out what the 15 airports are though). best of luck and very sorry to hear about your mom. this is tough.
