Caught running a red light :(

Hello EF'ers,

I had the unpleasant experience to get flashed by a red light camera yesterday.

I was waiting a red light early morning and was focused on the wrong light, which was maybe 10 meters ahead. I don't know why I thought they were synchronized...

So after waiting about 45 seconds, I passed at a red light and naturally got flashed.

Does anyone have a similar experience? What should I expect as a fine?

I found here that the fine is CHF 250. I am wondering if I should expect anything more serious because of the 45 seconds.

If no one was (potentially) endangered you can expect CHF 250.

If somebody was potentially endangered the case will go to a prosecutor which is free to give a higher fine including a monetary penalty. In that case a warning or driving ban from your canton of residence has also to be expected.

Wait and see what happens.

PS: Were was that?

I got one last month for 250 for jumping after 27s. The sign turning left turned green and in my deep reflections my subconscious took an expensive decision

Anyhow, you should expect the same.

I had the same yesterday as well! So easy for this to happen but it’s not good all the same. You have to be so concentrated in the city. Normally it’s a 250 CHF fine unless deemed a gross violation of traffic law, I.e. you potentially endangered others. Fine takes around a month to come through. I have 1 nearly three years ago and the fine was 250. The roads are good here but sometimes the set-up can lead you to believe your lane is green especially when traffic is flowing. You really have to check your lane and light. Good luck.

Thanks for the answers everyone, I feel much better after I realized that I am not the only one. I'll update here once I get the fine.

I believe it was around Manesseplatz. I don't think my mistake was particularly dangerous but I guess we will see.

Update: It was a 250 CHF fine in the end. Nothing else happened.

So far. Are you sure there's not still another stage to go?

I only ever had this (not red light, but excess speeding a couple of times) in a 'foreign' canton, but there was always the initial fine from them, plus court and admin fees from my home canton. Don't know if the same applies in your case or not, but don't count your chickens just yet.

Doubt there will be any more. Traffic lights are often turned off at night, so all they do is slow traffic down when they are on and collect money. I got flashed twice - both times through frustration at the dirver in front staring so slowly and thought I could get through too. CHF250 a throw...

CHF 250 is a simple fine. Anonymous. Pay and forget (and do better in the future). There is nothing more which will come. Nada, Zilch. End of Story.

Re: Caught running a red light :(

I went through similar scenario. I drove behind a truck that took forever to cross the road, got stuck at the yellow light and crossed the road at the red light: CHF250. Paid. Done. Increased the caution when driving even more.
