I heard police come in the plane what happens I’m stressing over it
I’m flying in to Zurich from Gatwick on Sunday

I flew over here last night to see some family

What will happen when I go back?
They'll probably disinfect you by immersion in boiling cheese...

“This is because it can take up to 14 days for coronavirus symptoms to appear. If you’re travelling to the UK for less than 14 days, you will be expected to self-isolate for the length of your stay, but you can travel directly to your place of departure.”

3rd paragraph directly under example 1 & 2 https://www.gov.uk/government/public...avel-to-the-uk
This - exactly what we did the other week. Drove over on the Monday, stayed at our place until Thursday morning and then caught the ferry back to France and drove back to Switzerland. We drove straight from Switzerland through France to Calais and caught the ferry, then drove straight to our house in the UK. Reversed it coming back. We isolated for the time we were in the UK, but absolutely no need to stay 14 days.

Yes- but you can't go and stay with family and 'live' with them. We could go to our apartment in UK, isolate for 14 days, then go and visit daughters and grandkids, as long as we did not go over the magic 6 - and then come back and isolate for 10 days. The bubble of 6 applies to Uk residents not visitors from 'red' country.

“How to self-isolate in your accommodation
You should self-isolate in one place for the full self-isolation period, where you can have food and other necessities delivered, and stay away from others. You must self-isolate at the address you provided on the public health passenger locator form.

This can include:

your own home
staying with friends or family
a hotel or other temporary accommodation”

Re: What to expect when landing in Switzerland from England

Justintheexpat - if you did not read the info on www.bag.admin.ch and www.gov.uk/uk-border-control before travelling, you only have yourself to blame.

Until the Swiss put UK on their red list, I travelled back and forth most weekends.

There is still no need to quarantine in the UK if you are a regular weekly traveller, as there is the exemption mentioned above. There is also no need to stay in the UK quarantining any longer than you need to, as you are allowed to leave the country during quarantine.

Switzerland however... 10 days mandatory complete quarantine, not even allowed out to take out the trash.

I drove back from a red area of France last Saturday, took the wife direct to the airport for her flight to UK, and went straight back to the flat where I have remained ever since. I had to cancel my Friday flight and stay here for the weekend.

Wife is quarantining 14 days in the UK. Which is also what I will have to do when I go back next Friday... because if I come back to Switzerland on Sunday, it's another 10 days in the clink for me. At least in the UK I can go for a walk...

Stay safe, all.

Kind regards

Ian

I have 2 friends from Bulgaria and Bulgaria was on quarantine list even before Switzerland. Around 2 weeks ago one of them came back to UK, went to work next day. No one ever checked if he self quarantine himself.
Second friend going to come back from Bulgaria next week. I am wondering if anyone will check on him.

It‘s not the checks or lack of that worry me. It is people that knowingly disregard the rules and put others at risk.....

With the complicity of their employers. The whole quarantine rules and travel restrictions have been a joke within EU. All the rules were disobeyed when it came to (more or less essential) workers.
I hope someday, someone will be prosecuted for endangering so many people's lives. (and obviously I don't mean the workers!)

In the UK you can isolate at a family home & leave the following day. Perfectly legal. The online form even gives the possibility for a departure date.

I did a day trip to the UK, no problem at all. All info on passenger locator form
Was it stressful doing a day trip with covid?

You are allowed to take public transport & shop for essential items on the arrival day. Clearly you can return to the airport, nobody will know if you shopped on the way.
You can leave to see docs and or buy food in the UK.

Not true.
There is also an exemption for people who live in the UK & work abroad & travel to the UK at least once a week. If you did this you would definitely be dual tax resident so would qualify as living in the UK.
Plenty of jobs are exempt from Quarantine, Airline staff, bus & coach drivers, delivery drivers.

I asked about this, they said there was this for biz people but if you trave, for visitation of kids (small kids) they don't give the same exception, BUT oddly enough, wait for it.... I know it's shocking.... at the moment, the Swiss WILL give you a get out of self-isolation pass!

They do it for the kids' sake, adults are secondary. I'd understand that.

Only on 1 side, not both oddly. If the travel reason is for a biz they don't make you isolate, to me it's odd to have it like that

Only certain professions are exempt. Pilots, Cabin Crew, Bus Drivers, Emergency Engineers, Government officials. Look on UK gov website for full rules & conditions. Normal business travel is not an exception.

No, I have antibodies as I already had COVID.

You could isolate in the same house as the kids, perfectly OK

This is not something that will go away, even if there is a vaccine, we will be living with this for several years.

This is potentially vital information

Are you saying you can fly To London and then fly back to Zurich a day later and you only need to be 10 days quarantined in Zurich

I thought you have to respect the Uk 14 day rules
NO! You can fly to U.K. and self isolate. If you need to leave before the 14 days is up, you can. When arriving in Switzerland you MUST STILL QUARANTINE for 10 days.

Are you sure about going out to buy food? I was told that it was ok to stop and buy food on the way to the isolation location but once there the only valid reason for going out is for medical reasons.
