I have a US license which is getting expired this month end. I read various posts in this forum that how to exchange US driving license with Swiss one. But I am unable to find the post which can help me doing it in Fribourg. Which office in Fribourg I need to go with Filled in Form and my documents.

It may be there on internet but I may have missed it due to my v limited language understanding.

All details shown here, there is just the one office at Fribourg, two other towns also shown.

The site says

You only have to come personally to:

• theory exams
• practical exams

So to exchange my US license I can assume that I can email them the documents. But I am unable to find any email address there.

Send them registered in the post then. I can't find an e-mail either even though it says you can use it.

I don't know about Fribourg, but when we did it in Neuchatel, the only thing we had to do was an eye exam. I think any eye place can do the exam.

If like Neuchatel, change to CH license before your US license expires or you will have to take the test.

There's a Contact form here, presumably they'll reply by email and you can take it from there.

You will have to use regular mail as you must send in the original US driving license. E-mail does not support this future yet,

You will need to fill in the from Gesuch um Umtausch eines ausländischen Führerausweises

Be aware that you must get a simple sight test available at any optometrist/eye glass shop (part of the above form). No need to make an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) appointment.

Want to update the thread and also extend my Thanks to everyone.


We went to office today with all the required documents and officer was so helpful there. He tried speaking in English and also asked us if we want International driving license. He just took some 15 mins gave us both the things into our hands there. Very smooth and wonderful experience.



Paid 105 CHF for each application.
