Having a UK registered car destroyed

Good afternoon everyone

I have a question regarding my options for my UK registered car that I have here with me in canton St. Gallen. I have tried searching for an answer here and elsewhere but I was hoping for slightly more specific details.

My question is - what are my options with my UK registered, untaxed and non-MOTd car now? I am happy to simply have it destroyed because, even though it runs, it has a significant leak from the water-pump housing and other small problems. I have since bought a swiss car and use that as my daily driver, the UK car is off the road and unused.

Details:
I moved here in March last year, and crossed the border late at night at Basel in my car with a few personal effects and two cats. A week later a moving company brought my household effects across the border at Basel, with the 1844 form and all that.
I (foolishly) failed to get the 13.20 inspection form as I came across the border, so I do not have one of those at the moment. The car was declared on the 1844 document as I have owned it for 7 years.

Although there were opportunities to return to the UK with the car before the MOT ran out, I did not want to travel as I would need to return on a plane or train, and that was not an option for me.

Basically, I would like to know your thoughts on simply having a company like autobuchs collect the car to be destroyed. The car really is not worth much at this point, and I just need it out fo the way.

Much appreciated
Cheers.

Re: Having a UK registered car destroyed

I had a similar issue, put the car on Ricardo (with all info) for 1CHF.

Car got picked up by a Romanian lorry, who drove it across the border for pastures new... The V5 was sent back to the UK as "permanently exported".

Re: Having a UK registered car destroyed

About 10 years ago I had an old Citroen van, registered to my old UK company. MOT and UK insurance had expired and it was past having it repaired. We found a Polish company to come and collect it, can't remember where we found them (it may have been a card on our other old car in a car park) but they had a big transporter and had plenty of old bangers on it already.

I gave them the UK paperwork and posted a copy to the DVLA in the UK. No money went either way.

Good advice, but I'd put it up for CHF100. You'll get it.

Is there not some danger of the car being used for illegal activity, which would be tiedback to me?

Not really. make a small sales contract that you both sign and notify the DVLC by completing the export section of the log book and hand the rest of the log book to the buyer.

You'll stick get a knock on your door (or worse) if the car *is* used in criminal activity but I can't imagine any criminal use of a dodgy Vauxhall Corsa.

When posting the seller portion back to DVLA, suggest send possible by signature post or the like. Keep photo or photocopy for your records and date you sent.

Re: Having a UK registered car destroyed

I sold my ancient Renault to an Egyptian (or was he Moroccan?) mechanic, for export to Africa - it would serve as a taxi. The car was on running condition, and well kept, the guy paid me some 200 CHF for it. They are always on the look for mechanical & manual cars (not electronic ones) that they can repair over and over...

All official (as stated above).
