Garage recommendation between ZH Nord and boarder?

Hi all,

I live in Eglisau and I'm looking for a honestly recommended garage (between northern part of Zurich and the German border) to take care of mechanics of my Audi.
I would like to cross check two offers I got from one garage in the city.

Namely:
  • Replacement of old hydraulic pump (Fluegelpumpe) due to leakage = 1400CHF incl. new pump and a hose, which according to them cost 580CHF and 301CHF respectively
  • Change of suspension to new adjustable springs (Gewindefedern) = 2000CHF incl. springs for ca. 700CHF (here I just want to lower the car a bit - purely visual effect)

Before I decide to go with those relatively high costs, I'd like to verify if indeed those are justified with some other shops around.

Thanks for any hints.

Re: Garage recommendation between ZH Nord and boarder?

A video reminder of how little space is left to work in the components of a car. Gaining access to the pump is a journey

It seems the mechanic is charging for approx. 3 hours of work. Not bad, after watching the video. If the hydraulic pump is gone, it means there's years of accumulated muck and rusted bolts down there. Of course, hourly rates are lower in Germany, but the local mechanic is not responsible for that.

Thanks for the insightful video Axa

Actually the offer then doesn't look so bad... In my case they estimated 2.80hrs overall - you were spot on! Their hourly rate is 128CHF.
I'll probably go for it.

Any thought on the costs of changing 4 springs? Here they estimated approx. 8hrs.
In the costs for suspension they also included Pruefungsgebuehren with Strassenverkhersamt which amount to ca. 200CHF. I'll probably do that myself instead.

Thanks
