Can I drive with my learner's license in Austria?

Hi there!

I have a full car driving license (B) and a full 125cc (A1) drivers license.

However I have a learner's license (permis d'élève) for the 35kw (A) license.

I wanna go on a motorcycle roadtrip in Austria around the summer. Would I be allowed to drive in Austria with this learner's license or do I need to do the exam/test before?

Thanks

No.

You cannot drive in other countries with a learner's license.

too bad, thanks for the clarification!

Well I guess I just have to motivate myself to take the exam! Maybe once it's a little bit warmer

Yes you can. Not in many. Just in one. A tiny one: Lichtenstein.
The road to Malbun is actually a nice training for a learner.

In addition there are so many, many roads and twisty passes in Switzerland which one can explorer on a learners permit. I do not see the need to go abroad.

You can find many, actually nearly all of them either

Unless they changed things recently, there are actually two more: Campione in Italy, and Bussingen in Germany.

It was an idea for a stag trip for a friend of mine for about 6 of us to go on tiny bikes. Its easier than trying to get full licences for people who are not bikers, and also for the camaraderie of doing something because you can, not because you should.

Of course a GG125 or the likes would be the right putt putt for the job, but some donkey was planning on taking a racing 2-stroke 125 for the power advantage, the thought of diagnosing daily problems had him talked out of it.

Corona has postponed the whole thing, might still go ahead at some point.

Look at "the adventurists" - the monkey bike run... Crossing the sahara, in 50cc monkey bikes...

It must have to be allowed by Italy or Germany. Purely from Swiss perspective it is not forbidden to drive abroad.

I think Campione has changed as the no longer have TI plates. Might not have been really possible but no one was the wiser or cared

Büssingen. I am not aware about any exception from the Germans in this regard.

Neither I am aware of an exception for the duty free road to Mulehous Airport, nor D2183 or the short stretch of D432 near Lucelle.

Some oddity would be the Tägermoos near Kreuzlingen. Switzerland, but German street signs.

Not a bad idea, but for 1300GBP you'd have yourself a 125, a ferry/chunnel and camping for a week. You'd still have a 125 and half a tank of go go juice at the end!

Actually, there are still plenty of cars and bikes there with TI plates, a lot of people haven't got around to changing, just the police and carabinieri!
