carrental.co.uk used to be really cheap for Switzerland, 50chfs or so, but now they are 100chf/day.
I noticed that prices had gone up everywhere, was trying to organise a rental for a family member who needed to move around in the UK, it was about 40% more than what I usually paid.

The other thing is that was odd last year was that they had suddenly capped the daily kilometre allowance on new rentals. It looks like they are back to unlimited kilometres now but a friend told me that they were having trouble with keeping the right number of cars "in stock" on site. Usually works in the customer's favour as they have to give you "the same or better" based on your reservation, but she did have to wait about 45 minutes for it all to be sorted out.

Re: Cheapest car rent

The cheapest wagon would be some private offer. There were Sharoo for private car sharing, but it went out of business in 2020, so now it is mostly Tutti and Facebook. Renting from a private party always extra thorougly check the papers and the vehicle before taking it over.

E.g. there is a 15CHF/day offer on tutti right now.

Amag, ford, subaru, mazda, fiat, renault, opel and toyota are just a few that pop into my mind.
Aren't these brands? Sorry for my English maybe, I had another idea in mind for "garage", as we actually think of it in Italy

In Italy there are multi-branded garage that cover all auto aspects: rent, service, wash etc.. since they don't have brand new cars they typically have good deals but you have to chat a bit to get the last price

I thought you were speaking about these kind of garage, those you mentioned honestly I don't think will enable me the best deal in Switzerland, as they are the official brands.

When I give my car in for service, my garage will rent me a car for the day for 30 CHF. If you're a regular client they may do that for you.
Thanks, but I am definitely not a regular customer as I don't own a car here.

Not much use to you if you're in Zurich but for Baslers there is twingorent who will give you a banger for CHF 44 a day (personally I'd pay the extra CHF 10 for a Golf without adverts)
Thanks, it sounds really nice, unfortunately it's in Basel

To flesh out the garage idea a bit, most garages (big ones and small independent ones) normally have one or more loaner cars that they use for clients who need to leave their car for the day but need a car.

I would ask if you could rent the car for a Saturday (not normally a working day) and return it at the end of the day (keys in the mail box etc.). They might be willing to do so. Assuming you return it with a full tank of gas etc.

I would start with the small independent ones as in my experience they tend to be more flexible and motivated than an employee at AMAG.
Thanks, sounds good this idea to me

Definitely interesting but what might be the extra paper work needed? What should I pay attention to?
