| | I forgot to pay for petrol
Its so easy to happen. Often I'm filling petrol, and i ask my wife to pay as she's entering the shop with both the kids, they fool around choosing ice creams / stuff to eat / restroom etc etc and hence forget to pay for my petrol.
What happens if one forgets to pay for petrol? It was always on my mind and so i asked the guy behind the counter. He said they simply find out our phone number (cctv -> number plate -> authorities) and call and let us know and we can come by and pay it Asap. Just thought I'd let y'all know !!
That title is clickbait!!
Also , I asked him how often it happens and he said around one a week. (I was expecting i to be many more in a week)

Drivers would set their tanks to fill, wander off for a chat etc and when alerted to a full tank... would just drive off. It baffled me. | The following 3 users would like to thank RufusB for this useful post:

My wife did the same thing, filled it up, went into the shop, picked up a few things, paid for them at the till (but not the gas) and left. About a month later we got a letter asking for payment.
She sent me to pay, because she was so embarrassed.

Actually, it's pretty normal. It's like opening the fridge door and forgetting what we wanted to get out of it.
These lapses have got nothing to do with dementia but can be part of everyday life.
I can't remember why I'm posting this...

The police turned up on our doorstep once claiming we hadn't paid at a petrol station in Geneva.
They got quite shirty when I said it couldn't possibly have been us as our car had been out of action for several weeks and not moved from its parking place in the underground garage.
After a lot of insisting on our part the police asked the garage to re-check the forecourt camera footage and it turned out to be a completely different make and colour of vehicle..... some barstward had cloned our numberplates!

That's why they changed them so you have to take your card before the cash is delivered.

Modern machines take uncollected money back inside after a minute or so and your account gets credited with the amount.

I recently used contactless payment to attempt to pay for 100CHF of fuel. Not only did I not notice the request for a pin, being over the spending limit, but the attendent didn't either. He only noticed when the guy in the queue behind me pointed it out.
Easily done.

Someone took out 700CHF worth. She also complains like mad when I double check the room when we leave a hotel but then doesn't complain when I hand her her phone, sunglasses etc.
Dunno about here but in the UK the petrol pumps won't dispense until the cameras have read your number plate.

I once had a dutch guy who had used the machine right after me, chase me through the Basler SBB station out to where I was waiting for my tram to return the CHF 400 - I had just taken out but not taken with me.
I've always liked Dutch people since.

Nobody has ever forgotten to pay in the Parker household because they all “forget” to fill-up. | The following 9 users would like to thank GParker for this useful post:

once in Germany I fueled up my Bertha(or was it Brunhilda, can't remember) and decided to park it on the side to make space for other fuelers. All action took may be 2 or 3 minutes. I then entered the shop to pay for the dinosaur's juice and the cashier promptly informed me that he already rang the police and they have my details as he thought I ran away.

I have had my cash taken back by ATM in front of my eyes. Friends and I on way to Cinema. When advert for same bank came on, our laughter was rather loud. I am much quicker now to grab the cash from atm
