Hi,

I have a 2016 Yamaha FJR, with Portuguese license plate and I am thinking about bring it to Zurich. I arrived in August 2020, so I still have 5 months to register the bike before the 12 month period expires.

Has anyone done a similar thing? My main concern is the total cost of registration, including inspection and potential changes that are required. I also don't speak a word of German, and after contacting the Road Traffic Office it's clear that they don't communicate in English (at least by e-mail).
I am interested in knowing about your experience, how much did it cost, what were the steps, how was the experience in the inspection, did you pay an agency to do it on your behalf, etc.

In terms of after-market parts I don't have many:
Day lights
Protection bars for side case
Givi top case

I've done my Ducati. It's easy, you just need to make the declaration when crossing the border into Switzerland and you'll need the certificate of conformity. Then you'll get your bike examined to check it is roadworthy and sounds like you have no objectionable modifications. The inspection fee varies by canton. For me the whole process was under CHF 100 but needed some time gathering documents, presenting them and then the bike but I speak French so this was easier for me.

It'd be a nice ride from Portgual in May or June if you can spare a few days but you probably know there are trucks that could carry it for you. Then you'll have all those Swiss roads to choose from...

Make sure the CoC is available, and get it from your home country if possible.

I have had an issue where CoC is not possible to obtain, and then you undergo a full inspection evaluation, which is a pain and costs north of 1000 CHF. (at that point, with a bike, you might be better off to sell and purchase a new one)
