| | Fuel Prices
I'm kinda curious - on my way to Zurich yesterday I was a bit bored, so payed a bit more attention to petrol station fuel prices.
The lowest I saw was 1,49 and the highest 1,67... none of these on the highway (e95).
The more expensive ones seemed to be all coop/migros type stations, while the cheaper ones seemed to be the smaller/independent stations.
Is there a reason? I thought that all the fuel came from the same refining plant, regardless of brand?

Guess it depends on other factors as well as well as how much profit each of them wants to make. We filled up the other day at the Muhleberg station on the way back from Bern and it was 1.499. The Eni down at Avenches has gone up to 1.76, but has 5 centimes off so 1.71.
We've pretty much sussed out where the cheapest stations are on the routes we travel regularly if we need to fill up. | This user would like to thank Medea Fleecestealer for this useful post: | |

There are some structural differences apparently. For Diesel I can say that Ausserschwyz seems always 10 rp lower than neighbouring parts of ZH, SG and GL. Innerschwyz is again 10 rp lower than Ausserschwyz. Cheapest ever seems to be the discount gas station between Schwyz and Brunnen.
Fascinating topic |

| | | | | Round here the Coop ones are noticeably cheaper than the BP and particularly the Shell, who are particularly expensive for Super (yes I know it‘s 100 RON not 98, but still...). Generally have a super card 4rp/l discount for Coop too. | Quote: | | | | | There are some structural differences apparently. Fascinating topic | | | | | Cheaper than the Migrol on the right hand side of the main road coming down the hill from Steinen into Schwyz?

The cheapest prices known to me in south-western Switzerland are in St-Maurice (VS). Local stations are all aligned to about 0.01 CHF. No idea why St-Maurice.
I go to Tamoil and use the Tamoil card. That provides an additional discount of 0.04 CHF all the time.

Fuel prices depend on so many factors: local tax structure, source of fuel, how much the station(s) buy, whether they have additional relationships with the wholesalers, what their business model is, how expensive their real estate is. If we can help it, we never refuel on a motorway.

Coop thinks they can have slightly higher prices then give 4-5 centimes discount via coupons in their weekly mag, from their supermarkets or from their app.
This usually brings the price down to the market level.
TiP: If you mist go to a Coop Pronto, have a look for their free magazine on offer. Almost always they will have a 5 ct. coupon in it. I always return the otherwise unused magazine to the pile.

The closer you are to a refinery, the cheaper the fuel because the delivery trucks have to pay $x per Km to deliver (it is the same for heating oil).
There is a refinery here in NE and the cheapest fuel can be found in the village of Gals in the COOP Pronto station or sometimes even cheaper at the Miniprix station 5 minutes further.

I always pop over the cantonal border to get my fuel.

The 'perfect price' for any product or service is what the punters are prepared to pay.

By the way, some interesting thing may have happened with gas and not much talk about it: | Quote: | | | | Changes to work and travel patterns wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic as well as governments’ low-carbon targets have permanently altered the trajectory for demand, the IEA added, with gasoline possibly never to recover to pre-crisis levels.
Increased gasoline use in developing countries will be offset by rising fuel efficiency and a switch to electric vehicles in wealthy nations, the IEA said in its Oil 2021 five-year outlook, also published on Wednesday.
Together with reduced consumption due to increased remote working likely to continue into the near future, gasoline demand may have peaked in 2019, it said. | | | | | https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-i...-idUKKBN2B9140 |

The Platanenhof is usually the cheapest around there. It was 1.46chf per litre for 95 when I drove past this afternoon. | Quote: | | | | | There is an independent petrol station in Boudry (https://www.centredelile.ch/) who are almost always about 3 centimes cheaper than the Migrolino ~150m further down the road!
