| | Motorbike Licence - Single Seater Harley
Hi All
I have a L permit for the A category (exam needs to be taken before 11.2021). In CH I'm told that part of the driving test is the Examiner riding 2-up for a part of the test. Since I own a single seater, my only option is to rent a bike for the day I guess.
However, a riding friend said that there are Cantons (e.g. Bern) that allow the test on a single seater as the Examiner rides separately.
Can anyone verify whether this is true or not?
Danke Vielmal!

Best to ask at the STVA you're going to take the test, or a driving school local to it.
Not only every STVA can have some different approaches, with COVID it is possible that there are no pillions and everyone rides on their own connected with radios.

1. get a bike, not a tractor with one seat (just joking)
2. it seems like you are living in Zurich, here is a explanation of the exam: Praktische fahrprüfung
in the middle of the page the motorbike test is explained:
Sie brauchen ein betriebssicheres Motorrad .... und zwei Sitzplätzen.
It seems like you need a motorbike with 2 seats.
3. but, it also looks like you can do the the test in another canton: Gesuch zum Ablegen der Führerprüfungin einem anderen Kanton
4. sadly it seems that in canton Bern you also need a motorbike with two seats for the exam:
Kategorie A
Motorrad ohne Seitenwagen,...
....

My daughter has the L, and asked, as I was afraid that I'd have to be her test passenger and I HATE being a passenger (if you have an L you can only take fully licensed passengers), but it's confirmed that they don't do that here.

Be aware that an L sign on a Harley doesn't exactly look cool.

Excellent replies all - thank you most kindly! I've emailed the local STVA (to commit them to writing) and I'll post their reply here for everyone's info.
What the kind lady on the tel. did tell me is that for a while last year they stopped doing the 2-up Examinations due to Covid but this was reinstated before the end of 2020. She herself wasn't sure of the status quo at present however..
Thanks again

When I was on a harley some other harley riders gave a salute, but the majority of other bikes didn't. Now I no longer get saluted at by the harleys. I've noticed an increasing amount of big sccoters giving a wave.

I have a (left) side mount number plate so that L can be seen from a mile away (from the front)

Honestly the maneuvers will probably be the biggest pain for the exam with a Harley...

Berna-Uno checking in:
I recently passed the exam in Bern(city, as there are multiple places you can do the test) and no passenger riding was involved, the examiner follows you in a car and radios you the commands.
FYI, a somewhat useful(in German) summary https://www.toeff-forum.ch/lexicon/e...-pr%C3%BCfung/
also youtube "schweiz motorradprüfung" has loads of useful videos, like maneuvering and some exam routes.

This is what my Instructor said - but "NEJC" above posted a link where indeed it does state that they ride piggy. I'll call the STVA in Bern when I'm ready to make the appointment (I am waiting for official approval from Zurich STVA to have my test conducted in another Canton..)
