Contract for buying a 2nd hand Car re umfallfrei ( not in a crash)

Hi everyone

I have received a contract for a 2nd hand car. To the question on the contract is the car accident free, the dealer has written " Not as far as I know". We questioned why he could not simply write yes or no to this question. He said it is because he bought it from a leasing company and so cannot be absolutely certain of the actions of all drivers who leased the car.

I am not comfortable buying a second hand car with such a term on the contract for 2 reasons: 1) beacuse I think this info should be clear from the start and 2) this term on the contract would surely reduce it's future resale value. ( it is fairly new : 40 000 kms, 4 yrs old)

What are your thoughts about this statement " not as far I know " that is written on the contract ?

2) Do you feel a TCS test is worth doing. My understanding is that the TCS test is more thorough than an MFK.

Any advice would be helpful

Thank you

It's an honest answer as only the driver / first owner could confirm this.

Nevertheless, the car market is a buyer market. Look for another one in case you don't like/trust it.

1. He's being honest - if he doesn't know then he doesn't know, and nothing we say or you do is going to change that.

2. For me it really depends what make, model and overall condition, but on the whole buying from a (reputable?) dealer I wouldn't bother.

For the accident part:
just take somebody with you who is familiar with cars. Major damages leave visible marks.

Future resale value:
It's more or less the last point in time when a car is worth money in Switzerland. Be prepared to take the loss, don't count on any decent resale value.

TCS test:
does it come with a warranty? 40 000km & 4 years still could have a bit left from factory warranty. Probably you don't really need to bother then...
