Tom
many reasons actually - theft, vandalism, parking dents and scratches, assistance(especially when abroad), glass break-in(happened to me in Barcelona, they stole nothing but my time), collisions(yes I am also confident in my driving, but).

perhaps in some use cases like driving only in CH in certain parts on certain roads at certain times after certain depreciation of the vehicle make those additional coverages unnecessary expensive.

insurance?
tax?
or both?
Tax.

Insurance is about CHF 2,400 for all the bells and whistles and is a function of the new price of the more expensive car plus a surcharge of a few hundred francs for having swappable plates.
