Towing a car out of Switzerland

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone had done/heard of something similar.

So I suspect my car needs to go through a heavy repair which would probably exceed the value of the car if it's repaired in Switzerland.

The car is not able to drive abroad by itself in it's current condition and I was wondering what would happen if I try to drive it out of Switzerland on a tow truck in order to repair it abroad? The car is not subject to a sale it would remain under my name but would there be a problem at the border? How would it look with the Zollamt?

Thanks for your help

That did not go well.....

Where to? What needs doing?

If it's on a foreign truck then they might be interested in it. You in theory would owe tax on the work.

They speak English, call them

The Swiss won't care, it's the country you're towing it into that will.

If you're with the vehicle I don't think anyone would care.

haha yes, you got me there. I think it's just bad luck though

What exactly needs to be done I don't know and I'd like to have it checked by a garage that specializes itself in my car model. Might be significant or might be very minor repair, I am not sure yet. Even with the tax I think it would pay off.

and if I'm not? I was thinking to pay someone to take it then fly to pick it up.
Also probably the car would not have the license plates on as I have a shared ones and need to use the other car

There might be a customs issue so it might need to be declared at the border.

Seems like an awful lot of hassle and expense for something that you don't seem to have any idea of what the problem is, but good luck!

Had assumed it was your old car but maybe not.

That is not a problem, as long as you have the grey card. Even if no longer registered.

Don't forget to declare the value of repairs at the customs when you come back
