Warranty protection when buying from dealership

Hi, can anyone confirm what protection you get from a dealer? I know from the UK there are lemon laws etc.

There is a dealership selling a car here in Zurich.

https://berninagarage.ch/

Car looks to be in immaculate condition, the price is fair.........but the dealer will not do test drives on the car (???) which I have never heard of before. Said something about it being first hand from the original owner etc.

The car comes with a Quality 1 (20km 1 year) warranty, but it seems this only covers the engine and transmission......I am very sceptical of warranties such as this as I presume they try and wiggle out......

So, to summarise, is there any protection or am I taking a 30k punt? (which I will not do!)

Powertrain is normally the only thing covered on used vehicles, 3 months is normal 12 months is very good.

Thanks. It was described as

Quality1 Garantie, 12 Monate, bzw. max. 20 000 km

Aus 1. Hand, TOP-Zustand, Nichtraucherfahrzeug, CH-Fahrzeug, Servicegepflegt, garantiert unfallfrei, Garantie bis 24 Mt oder 40'000 Km gegen Aufpreis möglich, Ablieferpauschale, BERNINAGARAGE - IMMER DIE BESTEN + GÜNSTIGSTEN OCCASIONEN AUS 1. HAND + CH-AUSLIEFERUNG !!!

Obviously I will test what I can on the day (soft top etc). I am just worried that something could appear within a week or two of taking the car and then I would be stuffed.

Had a used Audi once with a year guarantee. In the first month the oil pan gasket had to be replaced and the rear window defroster wasn't working. Then about 10 months later it was in the garage for a week because the battery kept dying. Finally, they found the short next to the starter motor. Fortunately, it was all within the guarantee.

As for not being allowed to test drive. IMO Forget it. Place looks shady by the way.

Re: Warranty protection when buying from dealership

There‘s nothing on their website at 30k that is remotely rare. I‘ve looked at all sorts of cars over the years including some 10x that value and a test drive has never been an issue (apart from an Aston Martin V12 Vantage on summer tyres in the depths of winter - so fair enough).

I‘d find a more customer friendly dealer.

146'000 cars for sale in Switzerland. Walk away if you don't like the seller, there are plenty of cars on the market.

Seems bonkers to not allow a test drive on a used car

There are some reviews online. Also seems to be a chf300 fee to prepare the car.

I agree with this, but it is very close to me, fits the bill (very few of those soft tops around for the price atm).

I guess the question is, if I bought the car and then experienced a serious issue, would I have any recourse?

That seems to be pretty standard these days. I‘ve recently found a dealer who changes the pauschal depending on the price of the car from 400 to 1000!

Usually the guarantee is from a 3rd party so you get directed to them.

Best is to buy privately. No prepping fees and VAT does not come into play.

But also no warranty (unless it has a transferable one), no finance and normally no part exchange. Ultimately, these are the things that you pay the dealer mark up for. Plus the prepping if you agree to pay for it or negotiate it out.

Re: Warranty protection when buying from dealership

And that warranty looks useless. 5k damage limit, I'm pretty sure the PDK would cost more to repair than that alone if there was an issue.

My plan was to buy the porsche approved warranty (2 years) but it needs 111 point check before accepted. Car looks great condition but last thing I want is something going wrong between now and then!

Only buy what you can afford to fix.

I can afford to fix, but it does not mean I want to just throw money at something..

So am I to ascertain there are no lemon laws etc here and that buying it is just inherently risky?

I have to say the cars they stock were generally in much better condition than other second hand dealers.

I suspect they did not take you seriously
