| | Parking in Basel (again)
Hello. I found a few threads about this topic, but they all seem a few years old and it seems things change in that time so I thought starting a new one. (If this is wrong, please let me know.)
I'm coming to Basel and will be staying for 20-ish days. The place I'm staying at doesn't have its own parking so I'll need to leave my car in public. Now, I'm not really looking for FREE parking, but 20 CHF every single day is a bit too much. Is there a more economic solution to this? Any recommendation for some cheaper out-of-town parking and public transport to or near Amebachstrasse?
Also, if I got it right, parking is free overnight, that is, until 8 AM. For a number of days we will probably be out of town sightseeing. If we leave, say, 9 AM, does it mean that I'll have to run out every morning at 8 AM to pay for one hour of parking?
And while we're at it, how long does an average search for a free spot last anyway?
Thanks. Sorry for so many questions, first time in CH, coming from a slightly less arranged country so wouldn't want to step on locals' toes |

Park over the border in Germany or France, and walk over, or pay for public transport to your car. Otherwise, you could, perhaps, put ad's up on the rental sites, seeing if anyone has a parking space they won't need during that time, that you could pay a fair amount for, or contact a few owners of buildings with garages, to see if they have a space you could use for a short period of time, and pay a fair amount for.

Why not get a spot in a parking garage at the monthly rate. I would make sure to have my car in a covered space what with all the hail we've been having this summer... The parking at Badische Bahnhof charges CHF 170 for a month and is reasonably near to Amerbachstrasse.

Thanks, that was quick! I didn't know about the monthly rate, I'll look into it! And I did consider France and Germany (border line 2.0 and 2.5 km away), but what I saw was there (Google map and other similar stuff) were a lot of closed and exclusive parking places! Any particular location to recommend?

My personal view is that I would avoid crossing borders as sudden restrictions may make that a challenge.

When I still lived in Basel and had visitors coming by car, we’d always leave their car there. If I remember correctly, it was 5 or 6 EUR per day. |

It was always free, without any barrier. I have not been there recently, so confirmation from someone else would be good.

One of the reasons why I stopped going there. Hence I wouldn’t encourage anyone to abuse their lenient parking policy (if it still exists, there was a plan at some point to limit the free time).

Park in Allschwil. There are many white zones. (Maybe they have other restrictions though).

I checked their site, it says "three hours". Maybe it's only official, though. Many shopping malls don't really have strict control.

Wait... this is getting confusing, sorry... I just found a leaflet that says: | Quote: | | | | Blue zone parking spaces
In general, these parking spaces will be subject to a time restriction between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. from Monday to Saturday. Drivers can park in these spaces for one hour in addition to the rest of the half-hour period already started. Drivers who arrive after 6 p.m. and display a parking disk can leave their car until 9 a.m. the following day. | | | | | file:///C:/Users/dperkovi/AppData/Local/Temp/KaPo-BS_Parking-Management_2019-03_en-1.pdf
Is this current information? The apparently current official page isn't directly contradicting this. Does it mean I can basically park in the blue zone for free from 6 PM till 9 AM for free? If yes, what exactly is a "parking disc"?

You can edit after you've made a few more posts. https://www.bs.ch/dam/jcr:31920bda-9...2019-03_en.pdf | Quote: | | | | | Is this current information? They're little clock like blue things you put on your window, setting the time you arrived, to the next half hour. If you arrive at 3:31pm, you set 4pm. Then you can stay to five.
If the blue zone becomes unrestricted at 7pm, you can in fact park freely from after 5:30pm until 9am. (Some blue zones have variation from the norm, but these are clearly signposted. The standards are written on your disk.
If you were to park in such a zone between just after 6:30pm and 9am, you set the disk to 9am.

The general answer is 'drive around in the suburbs' and find an empty spot in a white parking bay.
