Re: Selling my car - a bad idea?

Perhaps an urban legend but I’ve been told the story of a Brit who lived in Geneva for a few years moved back to the UK and thought it would be cool to keep his Swiss plates. Fast Forward three years he flies into Geneva on a ski package and is stopped at passport control. The insurance company had filed a complaint and claimed they were owed three years payments.

Apparently he could only enter Switzerland by clearing the debt.

A few holes in this story, but the principle is clear. The plates indicate the car is insured and the owner is responsible for paying for the insurance.

Re: Selling my car - a bad idea?

Ok update time.

Met the chap today and his family too. We agreed beforehand that I will drive the car over to him some time late next week if he's satisfied during the viewing. After the viewing we agreed on the price I wanted and all was good.

If everything aligns correctly, I may even be able to pick up the new car in Zurich same day. So that's just a short train journey in-between.

Anyway, I can confidently say there was no malicious intent on his side with the offer of taking the car with my plates. It just seemed to him that it would be a convenient solution for all. After I explained my reservations, he understood completely and we arranged the above solution.

Thanks for all the advice
