Car parking place in Zürich area

Hello, I would like to have a clarification about car parking places. In my town close to Zürich, I see blue lines and white lines. I am parking in white lines (really few and rare). Are these white lines parking places free?

No. The white color means that you need to pay at the nearest meter or you risk being ticketed. Blue is free, but limited in time. You have to declare your time of arrival on a clock thing that you put in your windscreen; if you go over the maximum allowance, you can be ticketed.

Yes, that part works just as you would expect globally. Go figure.

I wasn't sure whether this was a serious post. Then I had a quick look through OP's posting history, and now it all computes.

I am glad, you were able to confirm "your biased logics". That's the way to continue in your tunnel vision of the world

Somebody asks a question on a forum about something he doesn't know, how unbelievable, right?

What is unbelievable is asking „How can I know if I get a ticket“…

Probably he asked because here in Switzerland all is digital! You know Switzerland is ecological and does not want to put paper in car windshield. Open you mind!

Mind open. Switzerland is not particularly digitally advanced. How would you send a parking fine digitally??

Re: Car parking place in Zürich area

It could have been mailed to the address associated with the license plate.

Actually, I would have preferred it, since a fine magically disappearing from my windshield caused me quite some work and extra costs - because of course I didn't pay it in time. Never illegally park close to a school...

Why is it unbelievable? The ticket may have been removed by some do-no-gooder (or schoolkid in venetian's case), blown off by the wind(*), or rendered unreadable by rain and snow.

Or, alternatively, it may be from another car where the driver hopes you're naive enough to not check the car number the fine is for and pay it for them (you want to always check the car number on the slip, and verify with the police where necessary).

(*) IME the holder of the fined car will be mailed a reminder after the payment period has run out if the fine hasn't been paid by then. Apparently venetian's experience is different, mine applies to the Kantons St. Gallen and Thurgau.

It does not change the sense of my previous post, but my experience is from Italy I got no reminder at all, my first notice of the fine was the communication that my fine was overdue and I had to also pay an extra penalty. And because the postman was too lazy to actually ring our bell, he directly put the "you got registered mail to pickup at the office" in our mailbox. By the time we heard the sound of his mopad and went out, we had already incurred in an additional penalty for "missed delivery and mail custody fees"...

In Zurich the fines are wrapped in plastic to avoid rain damage and nowadays include a big QR code for digital payment. And I'm glad to hear that you get a first reminder without penalty.
