Launching Boats without Moorings

I have heard tell of the difficulties of getting boat moorings on the Zürich lake: Grand daddy-rights of the boat mooring passed down through generations; thirty year waiting lists etc etc.

So the question is: what are the rules/costs of launching a small boat (less than 5m) from the trailer if stored remotely ? Can anyone suggest slipways that provide access on the North side ?

Not deliberately skewing Dave's thread but if anybody could provide the same info for Greifensee I'd be most interested too.

Right next to Badi Tiefenbrunnen, opposite the Shell garage, is a slip-way, where there are a few yachts moored. There's no gate, crane or obvious authority nearby. Maybe this could be used. I've no idea if it's 'owned'.

Also trying not to hijack this thread but Walensee regulations and locations to launch would also be helpful.

Re: Launching Boats without Moorings

I know that around Sihlsee there are a couple of signs indicating public boat launching sites. I would expect there to be something similar around Lake of Zürich. I know of one guy who did exactly what you want to so it is definitely possible, just a matter of finding out where. Maybe calling the different Gemindes around the lake?

I have seen many boats being launched at the Thalwil marina, and a few down in Oberrieden. Give the Thalwil geminde a call (they are pretty helpful generally).

Guys, I have to admit, you have me stumped!

I'd go with above advice, I first tried to check the Seepolizei sites and they've got nada, not even contact details, just the usual "minimal equipment" lists.

So for wherever you go, ask the Gemeinde nearest/biggest and use lotsa Schmalz

"Grüezi, XXX da
"Entschuldiget Sie dani Sie beläschtige, ich bi worschinli falsch bi Ihne
"Chönt Sie mir säge woni tarf mis Boot innelah uf XXX-See?
"Gits det irgedwelchi Vorschrifte oder Lizenze/Gebühre diä-ni muess löse?

If "falsch verbunden", ask "hänt Sie en Idee wer mir det wiiterhälfe chönti?
If she knows: "Hänt Sie mir grad d'Nummere?"
If she hasn't got the number "Macht nüüt, trotzdem viele Dank, I find's scho use! I wünsch Ihne no en schöne Tag!"

In churz (in short): if you want to shave, er, boat, you have to lather!
aka be a silver-tongued devil

Re: Launching Boats without Moorings

For Greifensee there is a slip in the town Greifensee. You could ask the gemeinde there if it is allowed for public use. I think there is another one in Maur, and another by Badi Uster. I would imagine as a resident of Uster you should not have a problem launching a boat there should you want to.

I launch my 4m canoe from the slipway at Greifensee here.
Highlighted the car park and the slipway, you can drive your car straight down there and launch your boat.

Its actually the only one of I've found thats easy to get to on the Greifensee, all the others are in in swimming baths or miles from the road.
