Thank you for leaving the relevant parts out:
It is not just a fine, but also a suspended monetary penalty.

Suspended for what reason?

Do we really have to have this discussion yet again? Can we all just accept that Tom1234 and the British are the superior drivers, damn the statistics... the air is wetter in Britain. Case closed.
Well, I thought Downerbuzz had wrapped it up pretty well – was even prepared to let #Tom have the famous last word….

No, you don't need to have this discussion. What a strange thing to say on a public forum.

I never wrote that the British were superior drivers same as I never wrote that the Swiss aren't but just think they are.

Anyway, problem solved. It's been shown that the extra fatalities here that
skew the figures slightly are pedestrians and cyclists who according to many on here - probably deserved it.
… as long as it wasn’t the usual sanctimonious double talk we have to endure

So, #Tom, please tell us what you think but don’t write…

All you and a couple of others have done is criticised what I have said without actually adding anything to the conversation. You must be a real bore in the pub.

So, tell me what you think:

How about the fact that Swiss drivers don't indicate left to let other traffic know they are going to take the third or fourth exit on a roundabout?

Do you say that from your own personal experience? Not that they actually have pubs here but never mind.

Don't you mean the person that isn't allowed to sit at the Stammtisch?

It's a discussion forum.

Anyway, where exactly did I give any legal advice?

I don't even cut-and-paste legal stuff. The forum has someone who does that (and only that).

I was told that the rule here is only to indicate when exiting a roundabout, never before. Many don't bother to indicate even when exiting, but in Swiss driving instruction you are not taught to indicate prior to entering a roundabout. The Brits all get their knickers in a twist because they think the Swiss are uniformly bad at indicating at roundabouts, but the simple fact is Swiss drivers have been taught a different set of rules.

While I personally (I know, nobody gives a damn about my delusions), ultimately don't give a Boris Johnson, Mr. Cut and Paste generally has more useful contributions than you do, sorry....

... however, your posts regarding implicit superiority of British roadmastery will hopefully be mentioned in FO special despatches of some kind...

Nope. Not fond of being insulted by you if I make a spelling mistake. Sorry. And btw, you still owe me the name of some restaurants you like.

Nope. That is not the rule. You must set the indicator before you deviate from the course of the road.

In a roundabout this means you should set the indictor as soon as you passed the exit before your intended exit (or in case you take the very first exit you indicate even before you enter the roundabout)

Art. 28 VRV
Quote:
Der Fahrzeugführer hat alle Richtungsänderungen anzukündigen, auch das Abbiegen nach rechts. Selbst der Radfahrer, der zum Überholen eines andern ausschwenkt, hat dies anzuzeigen.

The driver of the vehicle must announce all changes of direction, including turning to the right. Even the cyclist who swings out to overtake another must indicate this.

It's advised by the TCS. It's not illegal. It helps traffic flow and it helps other motorists.
Why does the TCS recommend it?

It's interesting why it is not taught. I'm going to assume that as it isn't illegal not to do so, it's considered superfluous to teach.

My argument about roundabouts wasn't actually about the above but about indicating right. Most so do it - but incorrectly so it's absolutely no help to other road users even though it probably does not contribute to road safety.

I thought about making a funny Youtube video about it but it's illegal to film other people getting it wrong here.

Where did I actually write that?

For me, this all started when in the last few months I've had cars drive straight over pedestrian crossings whilst I, or my kids, or both have been on them, I've been forced off my bike a couple of times by motorists driving dangerously and a few near misses.

So, I wondered whether it was as safe here on the roads as people like to believe.

Yes, statistically, it is a bit safer than the U.K. for motorists and pedestrians which is re-assuring to know but then the U.K. and Switzerland are both a lot safer than a lot of other European countries.

However, my comments in a post above about newer, better cars, winter tyres, less ice, better roads etc could suggest that it could be even safer.

There's also the discrepancy of official rules and TCS recommended rules.

Axa to his credit, added to the conversation by querying my data and noting the leniency of fines here.

You, Biro, et al on the other hand have added absolutely nothing to the discussion. You've just trolled me.

The mods keep stating - attack the argument - not the poster. You should take heed.

Always fondly (okay, self-indulgently) imagined myself as a continuity writer in Hollywood blockbusters and wondered how I’d get out of this:

Where's your evidence for your claims regarding car age, better car, better road?. Oh, and while you're at it, you need to define what better is supposed to mean in objective measurable terms.

No you're right. Swiss cars aren't particularly new. I have no data for Swiss-German ones.
(French-Swiss appear to be more Francophile and don't put so much emphasis on cars as a status symbol).

Roads are difficult to quantify. Costs are no good as a measure as tunnels cost so much per kilometer.

Perhaps if you travelled a bit, you'd realise how good the roads are here. (Bit crap with regards to cats-eyes but that's because the snow-ploughs did them up).

I know you want to but don't mention women drivers...
