Pulled over by the police just now

Hi all,

I was following google maps to get to my route and long story short the app froze and I was in indecisive for a second as a result. The indecisiveness made me take the next right a bit last minute without an indicator.

I got immediately pulled over by the police. They apparently saw it.

So what they told me is that itís now being sent to a prosecutor.

Not posting this to defend myself (I know I was in the wrong) but to understand what the possible scenarios could be.

Anyone has an idea of whatís going to happen now?

Thanks.

Did you cross a solid line? Police in Switzerland doesn't like that.

While you are waiting for your Strafbefehl, you can read this inspiring article. Sounds very similar, 700 CHF.

I suppose "turning without indicating" is a simple fine no? Pay on the spot or with Rechnung. Sending this to a prosecutor is a bit overkill, unless of course police saw another violation you did at the same time.

I think it's standard for that level of traffic violation, and might have perked up the police if the OP had seemed to be a bit out of control if he entered the turning "at the last minute" at an inappropriate speed. I had to part with CHF 700 for turning into a side road off a main road which was clearly marked as no entry (not a one-way, I just stupidly crossed a solid line - my fault, chalk it up to experience) and the police were waiting there, presumably to catch people doing the same thing.

You get the fine a few weeks later which includes admin and court costs, and comes to CHF 700. My one and only infraction here so far but, boy, it was expensive.

Re: Pulled over by the police just now

Not blinking would result in a simple fine so what's the problem?
Did you speed, run a red light, enter a one-way in the wrong direction, or what?
Did you cause a dangrous situation by doing whatever it is you shouldn't have done?

The OP said they were in the wrong in their first post.

They didn't imply that the sign was in the wrong place or try and blame anyone else or use the fact that they were an adult woman or it was a Tuesday or some other such nonsense.

Exactly why I don't use google maps.
Got a trusty Garmin navi mounted to the windshield.
A bargain at 199 SFr considering that it can possibly save one from a 700 ticket.
That and that I don't always listen to it.

No it wasnít. It was fitted. Either the app froze or the route suddenly changed. Either way, Iím in the wrong as I said.

They do that sometimes - even the inbuilt dashboard ones.

They can get confused at complex motorway junctions too.

Still! Take my advice. Get yourself a real navi like a Garmin.

My wife got done for that a few months ago, CHF 400 and "if you do anything bad in the next two years, bye-bye license for a bit".

so the $700 consisted of $300 distracted driving with use of phone and a $400 service charge. what white lines are we talking about which would cost $700 if crossed over? like overtaking when it's a solid white?

Like this one here: https://www.google.com/maps/@47.4576...7i16384!8i8192

You are not allowed to drive over a solid line (not even to turn into a side road), unless you have also a dashed line on your side. Taking the exit to the right might just be barely ok. Driving over a double line or single line is equally worse.

Note, that the 3 left most lanes all go to to Zurich. But people not reading the signs, and just listening the to their SatNav or Telephone, will suddenly cross over to the left because their SatNav/Telephone tells them to do so. Freaking dangerous when a 40 ton truck suddenly pulls over.

You can get fined here for having it mounted on the windscreen.

It depends where on the windscreen. If you draw a circle 12m around your car and look from 75cm above the driver seat, anything mounted on the windscreen may not impair vision beyond this 12m circle.
