Parking ticket Zurich

I was using Parking Pay in the center and I went over time (parked for 85 minutes) 10:00-11:15. I renewed the meter in Parking Pay (11:18-11:39)- missing time was three minutes. I went to my car and there was a ticket. Fine was 80chf. 40 for overtime and 40 for parking over two hours. I challenged the ticket since it was clear I was not there for two hours. They came back and said the fine is for overtime and renewing the time. However, that is not what the ticket is for. Do I have any recourse? They said if I don't pay it will go to criminal court, that you only get the one chance.

The fine actually says this:
200.00, Exceeding the allowed parking duration of 2
hours maximum (parking meter)
203.05, Feeding the parking meter once the time has
elapsed although it is prohibited

Best to pay, you're over time and you re-fed the meter which is usually not allowed....tough I know

Re: Parking ticket Zurich

It appears to refer to:

1). Initially exceeding the time you had fed the meter and
2). Unallowed renewed feeding of the meter

The max. 2hrs appears to refer to the maximum amount of time allowed, generally, for that meter

So - correct.

OP, next time, do not re-feed the meter... just let it go into overtime, 40 is cheaper than 80

Re: Parking ticket Zurich

Feeding parking meters has been an offense since they were introduced over 50 years ago in the UK...

The translation on the fine is a bit wonky (you might inform the authority).
" Überschreiten der zulässigen Parkzeit (Art. 48 Abs. 3 SSV) bis 2 Stunden."
"Exceeding the allowed parking time for up to 2 hours."
Hint: 2-4 hours would be a fine of CHF 60
4 - 10 hours a fine of CHF 100
After more than 10 hours it will be a citation, and a enal order from the prosecutor, court fees, and potential administrative measure with even more fees.

Yes, the fine is correct, you overstayed less than 2 hours after the paid parking time ran out. (Your legal parking time ended at 11:39). And you got an extra fine because you were sneaky and renewed the meter which is not allowed.

As others said: It is cheaper to just park and not renew the meter.

Re: Parking ticket Zurich

I’ve got Pay by Phone on my phone.

One of the first times I used it I got a notification that my fee was about to expire and did I want to extend it? I did so and didn’t get a ticket. That surprised me as I know that feeding the meter is not allowed.

I’ve noticed that not all parking locations offer this and recently when I tried to extend without a prompt the app refused.

So I’m confused. In some cases I can extend using the app, but cannot using more coins in the meter.

Re: Parking ticket Zurich

Thanks all for your kind and thoughtful responses. Guess lesson learned, not to overpay again. I actually ran in to the ticket person on my way to the car. So I arrived around 11:24. Worst part was that I was visiting my doctor. He was asking me for advice about a personal problem - that is why I was late! I actually should have charged the doc!

Re: Parking ticket Zurich

I use Twint Parking and I learned that I can just pay the max period, then cancel if I go early and only pay what I used. So doing this all the time now since extending is not allowed even within the allowed time (daft rule if you ask me).

Re: Parking ticket Zurich

Same here with parkingpay. I always book max amount and then cancel it just before driving away. Ot doesn't seem to incur any fees, and also trains ones attention
