Vignette - get one posted or get one at the border

So Mama G forgot to by a 2023 vignette for her car before she left CH. She'll be driving back to CH in a couple of weeks without a valid vignette displayed. She has time, so should she get a friend to post one so she's sorted, or is it just as easy to wait and get one at the Basel border crossing when she gets there?

Just get it at the border. Is she back in Jan though? It’s valid until the end of Jan.

Re: Vignette - get one posted or get one at the border

The disadvantage with buying a vignette at the border is, if it's an autobahn like from Germany into Basle, there are very often long queues to get one.

Also, they slap the vignette on your screen good and hard - making removing them a pig and impossible to transfer to another vehicle during the year as they come to bits. I always make it less sticky by sticking it to my jeans or the floor mats before mounting.

Anyway as long as the missus is home before midnight on January 31, all will be well with a 2022 one...

Hair dryers have many uses. With patience though.

Re: Vignette - get one posted or get one at the border

it's 40.- for goodness sakes. The cost of a half day journey on French or Italian motorway! And yes, at my two local borders and on road-side checks- they do check currently that vignettes are stuck on firmly- they have got wise to the silly cheating tricks. Take your pick, 40.- or 700.-

As soon as e-vignettes come along they will apparently be transferable linked to your plate. When I buy a new car and trade in the old my physical vignette should be transferable as well.

It’s not school I hate, it’s the principle of the thing.

The fine is 200.- though, plus a mandatory purchase of a vignette.

The e-vignette will be license plate bound. Which is good for those with two vehicles on the same plate.

did you read this

Yes, the new vignette will be linked to a specific number plate. So it means you will be able to 'take it with you' when buying new car.

This will please dealers who at present give CHF40.- away with each sale…

Well yes, I did wonder about this when bowlie posted.

I have never bought a car without a vignette being provided by the Dealer.

I don't generally read trash like 20min.

There's a difference between not having one, and tampering with one let alone in an obvious manner.

Always heed the 11th commandment, "make sure you don't get caught".

Agreed, I don't either, But someone posted the link above.

And you are right, certainly not worth it for 40.-!
