My turn - fine for invalid ticket

Yesterday I thought I had swiped on the ZVV (Zurich public transport app) but something went wrong. When I got to tram stop I checked and noticed and immediately swiped - I was however on the tram already by then.

Of course person came around to check and I got fined as he could tell I had swiped when already on the tram, showed me the sticker saying I should do it before getting on.

I did not argue,I was a.mix of a bit shocked and ashamed and he was 100% right and I know how these things work. 90 CHF fine etc.

What hurts my spirit is that the piece of paper says they reserve the right to o let the police know and I am now on a register for 2 yrs. This has never happened toe before as I have always had a yearly pass etc. I wonder if there is any merit in writing an apology letter to explain? I kind of feel I need to show I did not mean it etc... (Not trying to avoid the fine).

Or is it just swallow my pride and get on with life?

Thank you

Re: My turn - fine for invalid ticket

Pretty much like all of us when have got a fine here for something (public transporting, naughty bins, going to fast-ing, smuggling, refeeding the meter... the list is endless) that in another country is just fine, we get a bit upset/emotional/angry/surprised..

but best to just swallow the pride and get on with it. I my self have been on the receiving end of several probation periods now that I think about it, but I really did have to think about it... cos I moved on

The same thing happened to me not long after my son was born. Totally distracted, sleep-deprived, heading for an appointment a couple of stops outside of zone 10 in ZH. Forgot to buy an extension ticket. Ticket inspector was taking none of my explanations, apologies or excuses.

I believe register is intended to identify repeat offenders. No stigma attached. Not used for any other purpose.

Thanks for the reminder that we need to swipe it before entering the tram! Wow, I’m sure that you are not alone that us otherwise rule abiding citizens occassionally and unintentionally make a mistake! It hurts though doesn’t it .

Agree with others that it won’t effect anything but your pride.
