| | Importing Boat and trailer from UK to CH
Planning to import a boat (Dinghy) towed on a new trailer from UK.
Contacted DVLC to find out if I can get 'Export' plates as I know in the UK the plates are same as the towing Vehicle there. If this is not possible, any other options?
Importing to Switzerland do I just need to provide the necessary paperwork:
- COC for Dinghy and trailer
- Sale Documents for Calculating the tax
For the boat, I have contacted the Schifffarht ZH and need to provide the following:
- Registration form
- Proof of customs clearance 15.10
- Declaration of Conformity
- Ship's operations manual
For the trailer, assume need the same and need to take it there (with boat on due to weight needed):
- Registration form
- Proof of customs clearance 15.10
- Declaration of Conformity
I do not need to do anything 'special' at the border just register the import and can pay the tax at a local Zoll office?
Did I miss anything?
Looked at the form: https://e-dec-web.ezv.admin.ch/webde...tml?cid=524601
But don't have a 'Recipient UID / TIN' Number.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Can't you row it up the Rheine?

Unless it is a historic boat with sentimental value, flog it in the UK and pick one up in CH.
Also depending on the sail area and motorization you will require a license before you get the thing wet, and if there is any saltwater antifouling on the thing you will probably need to remove it.

In addition you should also known the Tarif number for boat and trailers. You can find it here: https://xtares.admin.ch/tares/login/loginFormFiller.do | This user would like to thank aSwissInTheUS for this useful post: | |

The sail area (without spinnaker) is below 15m2 so no license needed I also already have my powerboat license for CH and will have the sailing license this summer (so I can install and use the spinnaker). I am an experienced at sailing (did my RYA tidal advanced when I was 14). Also also have yachting certificates, and can sail on the open seas, but in lakes in Switzerland have to be separately certified.
Motor is also just a small electric motor with no license required.
STV came back, I can get a temporary Swiss plate normally valid for 24 hours, but max 96 hours. So this could be an option if it can be valid from the day I collect the trailer. DVLC has not come back to me yet, I know in Germany you can get export plates (as I imported a car from there around 6 years ago).

It..was..expensive... and I never got to sail it in CH, as it was a seaboat and not a lake boat (anti fouling ect.) and because of this and that and other nit-picking Swissyness and because I left the country before I got a Liegeplatz.
In the end I sold it.
However, now that I live on the Ammersee, I have spent the last four years waiting for a Liegeplatz for my tiny dinghy (Häfele 375) and just last week I got word that I now have one just a few kilometers from where I live.
So this year, Slammer is going sailing.

Thanks in advance for your help. | | | | | We used to do this professionally. The border and customs clearance are tortuous; we tried it once ourselves and we were stuck yo-yoing between customs offices at Basel for over 4 hours. The trailer is even worse than the boat. If the boat isn't type approved here, you'll need to get it inspected before you can put it in the water.
In short, either get a professional transport company such as Transped to bring the boat from the UK, or sell it there and buy here.

*SIGH!*
It had to go through the MFK and they did not like it, so I had the boat taken off and the trailer Swissyfied in Berneck for..a...lot...of...CHUFF´s.
MFK re-rated the trailer then to 2500kgs, meaning the 2600kgs of the boat was too heavy for it´s own trailer...
Things went downhill from there.

Thanks, also considering having it shipped. Will contact: https://transped.co.uk/ and look for other companies for this and the boat builder is also looking into this for me.
Thanks
Got an email back from the UK DVLA - Total Giberish, did not answer my question blabbed on about totally different stuff about cars.... Probably a standard cut & paste reply.
Will also ask a friend of mine in Germany if he could get export plates for a trailer which might work.
Boat is already used here, found some old ones on-line, and in contact with the schifffarht people and all good with them.
Will visit the factory before delivery and they will go through all the rigging etc... with me, can either do this when I collect or fly over and visit them.
We are adding anti-fouling which is copper plates that are just lightly sanded each year. Will check this is allowed here before the boat is built.
Boat weighs: 183kgs
