Re: Easjet Basel-Luton route cancelled?

I have been using EJ since the 1st July every weekend to fly home from Switzerland and they have so many route options from the UK to Switzerland and vice versa. Does it matter from which Swiss Airport you depart, Basel, Geneva or Zurich. Luton has the majority of daily flights from either Geneva or Zurich and yes it does seem to be that during the seasonal months they will change flights/destinations airports but they do this so as you and I can pay next to nothing for our flights.
So what if you have to travel from Basel to Zurich or Geneva by SBB and then fly to Luton/Gatwick/Nottingham/Liverpool.
I have found EJ to be a superb option cost & flixibility...the other option you have is pay the outragous BA or Swiss Air prices, then you can fly from whatever airport you desire....

Yes it does matter which airport I fly from and to!
Geneva takes me three hours to get to by train from Zürich and Gatwick takes five hours to get to N.Wales.

Maybe if the mods are in agreement we can draft an email on behalf of the ''English Forums in Switzerland''.

In a way this doesn't just affect Baselers but also those Germans and French who also share the Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Euroairport. How happy will they be if they have to cross into Switzerland to catch a flight from Zurich?

Details, details, details....you can't have it all your own way....
Liverpool to North Wales would be the best option for you.....1 flight a day from Geneva, cheap as chips...so what if you have to spend 3 hours on SBB.....Its not like it's British Rail

Are you blind to the fact that we did hae a flight to LPL from BSL and most people on this forum who live up north want to keep that flight?

Re: Easjet Basel-Luton route cancelled?

Not everyone wants it changed back to Basel.

I can get a direct train to Zurich airport and it takes 35 minutes.

Basel used to take two trains and the overcrowed bus to the airport. It used to take about two hours including the waiting.

Re: Easjet Basel-Luton route cancelled?

Your right in saying that I haven't been here that long...good observation, however before I open my mouth I ensure that I have the facts in front of me.
Nottingham to Geneva, is the same price now as what it will be in October, November, December, January and February.
Actually if you book a flight today for travel in February £44.01 return in November it will cost you £44.07 so I see no difference in the cost of flights be it seasonal or not.
Geneva to Liverpool in November it will cost you £59.17 and in February the same flight will cost you £44.07........
And the point that you were trying to make was.......................
It's all about planning and you obviuosly don't know how too....

Changed to Basel? There is no alternative. They are not putting in a flight from Zurich to LPL or anawher else in the north of England

Re: Easjet Basel-Luton route cancelled?

Apart from the time to Zurich and Geneva, SBB to those places can cost as much as (or more than) a well planned EJ flight.

I've sent my 10 Rappen worth to Andy@easyjet.com and linked to this discussion. An englishforum one as well as everyone's individual ones sounds like a great idea!

I do suspect that they know how lucrative the route is but must have forecast more to be made, via deals with airports aswell as sales, via other airports. I suppose all we can do is to try and highlight unusual considerations they may have not considered which favour Basel-Luton due to:

- reducing their risk over the next years (eg perhaps Pharma employees are more stable than Finance ones, i dunno... and Roche's UK offices are nearer Luton than Gatwick, not sure about that either ...)

- Basel's just better than Zurich (only kidding Zurichers! kind of ) so more people will come....

Do you work for easyjet, because you are really defending them to the hilt here. All I want is that they continue the BSL LPL route. I don't want to travel from Geneva, I don't want to spend another 100CHF on train fares.
I waqnt to travel from Basel to Liverpool.

Following is still speculation but promising (for those who East Midland's might suit) considering someone's earlier comments:

Reckon there's a hell of a lot going on behind the scenes in the airline's at the moment and we'll just have to ride the uncertatinty for a while...

Re: Easjet Basel-Luton route cancelled?

With currently high fuel prices simply acting a as catalyst, expect a great deal of consolidation in the low-cost sector, especially in Europe, with takeovers and penetration in to Central and Eastern Europe with a lot of casualties. The European market will probably support just 4-5 low cost carriers.

The full-service-network carriers are adopting many of the attributes of low-cost in their short-haul product, but ring-fencing their premium long haul. This means that companies like Swiss and Air France are able to offer their great service, to central airports but at reduced cost off peak for short haul.

Re: Easjet Basel-Luton route cancelled?

Personally I can't stand Ryanair and Easyjet, but I suppose their target market are leisure and VFR. Its not the no-frills that bothers me, more the cattle-herding, scramble for seats and incessant advertising over the cabin address system...I reckon that is worth about mmmm 120chf to avoid.

Obviously if you have a family, low-cost is a significant saving and your own kids are likely to be as rowdy as the rest of the great unwashed - although I still wouldn't allow them to drink the vodka baggies (2 for the price of 1 only on ryanair !)....

This thread title was " EasyJet Basel-Luton route cancelled?" and many posters were stating that they wouldn't travel to Zurich to fly to Luton and perhaps we ought to complain en-masse.

I was very happy when Easyjet re-started Zurich-Luton and Zurich Stansted.

The cancellation of flights to Liverpool though is a pain for me as well.
