Car Import- Tied Up in Red Tape!
This is my first post since actually moving to Switzerland, generally very happy ...but have got wrapped up in some Swiss red tape and need advice on getting untied.Let me describe my situation; I moved here with my family, bringing with us a number of possessions, including my wifes car. As the "head of household" my name was placed first on the 18.44 form for customs. All seemed to go well with the import, our 18.44 form was approved without issues, we got given a duly stamped 1320A form for my wifes car...so we thought all was well with the world. We now try to register my wifes car in Switzerland, went to the Service des Automobiles with all the correct bits of paper...and they refused to accept the car! Reason given was that my name is first on the 18.44 form, and my wifes name is on the non-Swiss registration document for her car. They tell us the names must match. (Helpfully advising us to go tell Customs they had got it wrong!)My question is; has anyone else had this same problem? if so how did you solve it?I can see two choices;1) Ask Swiss customs to issue a new 18.44 for just for the car, with my wifes name on it....I expect chances of success low?or2) Change the ownership of the car on the non-Swiss registration document to my name...easy to do but then it would look like I owned the car less than 6 months...possibly opening myself up to risk of a retrospective import tax demand?Other than these two bad ideas Im right out.Has any one else got a better solution?
