Re: Anyone into motorcycle riding?

Yes we are, but bikes and us yet to move to Ringlikon in Nov/Dec - by which time we could probably suggest meetings over mulled wine to discuss roads to ride on next year??? (Also we have to have the bikes pass the MOT thingy first I guess)

We ride earthpigs as my German speaking friends call them, ie an Africa Twin and a Dakar 650, (we do actually ride on the road, and hardly go offroad anymore, must be the age)

Would be great to hear from any riders in our area.

Dave & Sabine

PS we move around end of Nov 08

Hey that would be really cool. We move to Zurich area , probably dubendorf on the 30th October. Would be grea tto get together and discuss ride out s for next season. There s no MOT in Switzerland, the only thing you have to do , is import them within a year, Im doing the same thing as my bike is a UK registered bike.
Keep in touch

Actually there is - and it is much tougher than the UK version. After importing your bike you will receive an invitation to take it to the local vehicle test centre - it must pass the test in order to be issued with swiss plates.

The biggest gotcha is headlights - if yours are not switchable for riding on the right then you will need to replace the headlight unit before the test.

The next thing is any mods you have made - like a different exhaust pipe or brake lines for example. These have to be accompanied by a manufacturers certificate stating that they are tested and certified for your bike.

When taking the bike for the test make sure it is very, very clean and has absolutely no evidence of oil leaks.

Thanks for the tip. Mine is a straight forward UK FJR1300 with double headlamps, so shouldnt be a problem. Ive lived too long in Holland theres no MOT here, does the test have to be every year ?

The test is every 3 or 4 years depending on how they feel - you get invited when it's due.

Your UK spec FJR has left dipping lights - you'll need to change to right dipping lights unless they are switchable - quite a few tourers are but it would be wise to check.

Yes we heard about this - inquired with Honda/BMW dealers who will replace our headlamps/lights. Prior to our move I have removed my really loud scorpion exhaust - while it had a piece of paper to say it's a part made for the BMW etc I do know from my days in Germany that similar to the Germans, the Swiss probably deem it way too loud....

Thanks for all the useful tips!

Re: Anyone into motorcycle riding?

Aha, there is an invitation I would have jumped at until September last year. I am afraid I was getting lazy on my own Ducati and managed to high-side in the Schwarzwald. Bike was written off and I nearly was.

Sorry

Re: Anyone into motorcycle riding?

Ducati and Superbike race this year... anyone?

I got a ticket to a Superbike event of my choice when I got my 1198 ducati. Any sport bikes interested in planning a trip to Italy, or any other place?

Sure we can meet any moment.... I am mostly available, just need 1-2 days in advance or weekends.
I will go tomorrow to pick up the bike.... I haven't even see it yet
at least not in the color I ordered it

I will move to the other thread, which seems more appropriate for get togethers.

I am in Horgen ZH by the way, you?

I think will be great, maybe a week day afternoon, a coffee or something in a short trip, so we can plan something bigger, what do you guys think?

I went last weekend (by car) to Cham (ZUG) from my house in Horgen, and the road looks pretty good for a short week trip, only to get in shape for the weekend

Re: Anyone into motorcycle riding?

Did you collect your new toy yet mp3plc?

So, tomorrow wednesday looks the best of the week weather wise. Maybe a quickie somewhere.

I live around Zurich airport, so not a problem. What time where you thinking?
