Relocating suggestions/experiences from Munich to Zurich

Hello All,
I am planning to relocate to Zurich by car,can some one share their experiences and suggestions?

Mostly I will have 2 big trolleys, notebook and other electronic gadgets
I am concerned about the things to declare at customs post (any pointer will be very helpful,I guess St Gallen will be the customs point).

How about the drive,is it better off with a train?
Any stopover suggestions?

Cheers & nice weekend!

Re: Relocating suggestions/experiences from Munich to Zurich

Hi B

I went through by car on Monday and we were just waved through, even though the back of the car was heaving with bags. The Swiss customs at Basel just wanted 40 francs for the road pass called the vignette.

You are supposed to complete a form and have an inventory of all of your goods so probably worth doing one anyway, but unless you come through with a lorry full of stuff they probably will think that you're on holiday.

Hope this helps.

R

Re: Relocating suggestions/experiences from Munich to Zurich

Hi,

I am in Zürich since a month, actually relocated from Heidelberg. I rented a van, had a lot of stuffs with almost no space left. At the customs (Basel), they checked me, but haven't created any problem.

have a nice weekend !

It is a much better trip by train, but you will have the problem of getting all your stuff on there. Whether it is possible to do a removal by train is another question.

From what I've been told you need to have your registration or some other piece of paper before crossing the border, plus lists of everything in your boxes. Then the border crossing guards won't give you any grief about customs duties for things you've already owned for years. There may be other paperwork involved as well, but my experience is with doing this kind of thing via professional removal companies.
