Air Lingus new route ZRH-LGW

Whilst surfing for flights I discovered that Air Lingus are starting a new route from Zurich to London Gatwick on 26th April 2009. The advert says prices from 58 CHFs... but we all know thats highly unlikely!

Just thought someone out there might be interested.

PS. I can't see any other threads on this - apologies if I've missed it.

Re: Air Lingus new route ZRH-LGW

I have just posted my thanks. We fly this route at least 5 times a year, and BA have officially stopped this route (as of end of March), so we were wondering what on earth we were going to do. What a strange (but wonderful) co-incidence that another air line are offering this route now....

Thank you loads for posting this, as I never would have thought of looking at Air Lingus, and this will save me elderly in laws (not to mention ourselves) loads of faffing at the UK end of the journey.

Re: Air Lingus new route ZRH-LGW

Unfortunately my company has a preferred supplier arangement with a travel agent who I won't name here. On occasions I have to go for business to a company who are about ten minutes from Gatwick airport. So direct ZRH->LGW flights are absolutely ideal, or would be if it wasn't for the stupidity of the travel agent who refuses point blank to book me onto low cost flights so I end up paying much more (sometimes ten times the amount) to fly into Heathrow and then embarking on the long trek from there to Gatwick.

I've asked them many times why this is necessary and they tell me that low cost flights are actually more expensive because I can't cancel etc. I've never once had to cancel a booked flight and even if I do, I think it would probably still be cheaper. I've bought an Easyjet tickets once while standing in the check-in queue an hour before the flight left (the wonders of WLAN) and payed something like 20 quid.

Re: Air Lingus new route ZRH-LGW

HI,

I booked two flights yesterday with special offer, one flight I paid 7CHF plus taxes, and on the other trip I paid only for taxes, so a return to Gatwick, on a Friday coming back on a Monday cost me a grand total of 45CHF for a return including ticket and all taxes...

I think for those who travel often to book a big pile of them now, because we know the price won't stay like that for long.

Thanks

MIK

My mum has just booked a flight with Air Lingus from LGW to ZH for March and paid £105 return. Long may it last! Apparently BA will reconsider this route in a years time.

Thats amazing! I just wished my family lived closer to Gatwick. Driving all the way up to Birmingham from Gatwick is too much of a drag to justify cheap flights. I'm just stuck with the monopoly of Swiss flights to get to Brum.

Easyjet does Geneva to East Midlands if that is in any way more acceptable. It's probably way cheaper even if its somewhat more hassle.

Re: Air Lingus new route ZRH-LGW

How annoying that BA are stopping the ZRH - LGW route.

I used to travel Easyjet on that route back in the day and it was most convenient and often cheap.

Then when they stopped, I had to go with BA which was convenient but obviously more expensive.

Unfortunatlely, the AER Lingus departure and arrival times are not exactly ideal, with the daily return flight at 12:40, theres no time for a sunday lunch. However, they are cheap if you dont mind that.
