Tax difference between diesel and benzin cars.

Hallo all!
Who can tell me - which car is cheaper in swiss taxation, with diesel or benzine engine? How much is amount?
e.g. VW Jetta 2.0 FSI 150 hp 2007 and Jetta TDI 105 hp 2007 ? Canton Ticino.
And all what you can add to subject.

Thanks!

Re: Tax difference between diesel and benzin cars.

if you mean roadtax it's based upon engine capacity

So a 4.2L V8 would cost more than a 3.0L Turbo even if the 3.0L Turbo had more power

There's a table somewhere from Zurich strassenverehkrsamt - but I don't know about Ticino if that's different pricing or if it's a federal thing

Here's the Zurich table if it helps

OK think this is it in Ticino but it's some sort of calculation so you need to know the weight of the car and power in Kw not PS

Babelfish translation on how they calc it

So, it's no difference in fuel and engine type, only in power? Everybody in Swiss advise me to buy a car(used) with benzin, but not diesel, and I don’t understand why? Diesel fuel is a little expansive, but more saving, economical.

Presumably because benzin is cheaper than diesel, and you don't have to hold that smelly nozzle at the filling station.

Also petrol cars are usually cheaper to buy than diesel.

Re: Tax difference between diesel and benzin cars.

If you are really looking to save money on the tax on your car, get a 1.0. The tax is 75% lower because it is ECO! Big saving. Until this year it was 50% less but now its down to 75%- I pay on mine 75.80 p.a. You pay more I believe on tax with diesel but less for it at the pumps, so it works out the same as for petrol. But of course you add to pollution!

Hopefully, after nearly five years of walking everywhere because they still hadn't received a satisfactory response to their question, the OP has now seen your post and can go and buy whatever it is that you've recommended.
