Re: UK MOT test in Switzerland

At risk of being accused of asking a stupid question...here goes. I've got the same problem but the other way around.

We live in the UK and will be here for 4 more months. We are currently driving our Swiss registered car which is due for its MFK no later than end May. I'm working all hours at the mo and my wife is heavily pregnant so the prospect of a long return drive to and from Switzerland to get the test done is not that appealing!

Does anyone know if there are any Swiss approved MFK testers here in the UK, specifically in London?

Thanks

Nic

Swiss MFK must be done at the MFK center of the canton in which it is registered.

That said, if you are out of the country for some time, explain that to them. It's normally no problem to get the date changed.

Re: UK MOT test in Switzerland

why do you say it needs to be done at the very latest by the end of may? have you already been invited for the end of april and have postponed it for a month?

when was the last swiss mfk done, in which canton and how old is the vehicle?

if the last test was done at the end of may 2009 you can easily postpone it for at least a month if you're out of the country. if you haven't had an invitation yet there's a good chance you won't get one till june or july or even later.

not all cantonal authorities are exactly on time with the "invitations" and you can actually go to a different canton for the periodic testing, or even to the TCS test centre if you're a member.

i know someone in london who loves to visit switzerland, i'm sure he'd be happy to drive your car over here on an all expenses paid trip and go with me to the test.

ps, the answer to your original question is of course no. only the swiss can certify swiss cars as safe and roadworthy.

pps, just having gone back and read page 1 again, why don't you go to hungary?

wow, what a nice bunch ... i'll be sure to come back on here (not)
Just in case you do hapen to come back on here and absolutely no sarcasm intended, I was wondering if you would perhaps be considering selling your uk car or swapping it for a swiss one? We are returning to the uk this summer and are looking at different ways of getting back and getting a uk car. Let me know if this might be something worth considering.

Thanks
