Travelling from Bern to Paris by Train

Looking for sites/agencies (apart from SBB) where you can book cheap rail tickets to Paris (traveling from Bern). It seems that the cheapest option is to go via Neuchatel directly to Paris. Anyone have any links/info regarding this?

Re: Travelling from Bern to Paris by Train

I think your only options are the TGV via Neuchâtel or Basel (the Basel route is a bit quicker). I booked my trip to Paris through Railtour last year.

Re: Travelling from Bern to Paris by Train

I booked my tickets with SBB ( at the office).

When i went to buy them, the seller told me that if want to get cheaper fares next time i should book my tickets in advance and so it is possible to find seats that cost less money. When you go to the SBB office , the man should have a list with the seats and the prices for them, he should be able to suggest you one place ( probably not close to the windows) with a nicer fare.

You can book through the French TGV website, but you need to do so at least one week in advance so that they can send the tickets to you (otherwise you must collect them from a French train station).

Re: Travelling from Bern to Paris by Train

I came back from Paris to Geneva 10 days ago and it took 6 hours. We left the Gare de Lyon on time and hurtled through the countryside till Bourg-en-Bresse. We then had to get off and wait for a bus to Geneva due to track repairs. The bus driver was late; we got searched at the border and he did not know his way around Geneva. Check with the SBB and the SNCF that the line is OK or be prepared for a long wait.

If price is more important than speed, try booking from Basel or Mulhouse. Mulhouse is the first stop in France after Basel and is about 20 minutes on the regular regional trains. A ticket costs about CHF10 one way from Basel.
Book in advance for the best offers and try searching for 2 one way trips rather than 1 return.
In my experience, the tickets have always arrived by post 2 days after ordering.

Alternatively, http://www.trocdesprems.com is a marketplace site where people sell off their untransferable prems (cheap) tickets.
