Have you considered BMW garages across the border in France? I've just booked ours in for an Inspektion II service at a BMW dealer in Lorrach (Germany). They had slots for this week and their service prices are a lot more reasonable than Emil Frey.

Not sure if I understand you but I'm presuming you are asking if Emil Frey is a dealership, the answer is yes and they do repairs etc

Could you post your experiences once you had yours serviced. My BMW is also coming up for a service and I was looking for a garage across the border

I can certainly recommend Schupp and Kiefer just across the border in Lorrach. They were a little cheaper than Emil Frey and they give you a VAT receipt so you can reclaim 19%. There were plenty of other Swiss cars in the car park, so it seems a pretty common thing to do.

Doesn't going across the border for service make your abgastest and MFK invalid ? I thought you were not allowed to go across the border for servicing your car as for this reason (protectionism of garages here in Switzerland)

I fail to see how that is enforcable since a regular service is not exactly mandatory. And if asked, I could always say that I serviced the car myself.

Recently, I had a service check at Pius-Buchs. For the appointment I had to wait approximately 1 week. As for English it's not that bad, at least 3 people seem to have some idea about it (one salesman and one technician for sure).

NOTE: I'm not sure if anyone at the Pius-Buchs carrosserie speaks English.

WTF? It does not matter where you service your car. What does matter is that it does not pose a security risk. They don't check if your air filter is bad, or you have to change engine oil and a few gaskets. No. They don't care about that.

What they care is the critical issues which might make your car unsafe for other riders on the road. They check:

1. car frame (rusted or not)
2. suspension (well working, damages in ressours)
3. tyres (good quality, no damages)
4. speedometer (if it shows proper speed and error is only in lower direction) 5. CO level (to ensure greenpiece is satisfied)
6. tunning things (wider tyres, "unsafe new elements", etc)
7. breaks (but not looking at pads, but by measuring the distance it takes to stop)

So, you normally can service your car anywhere you want, it just has to be generally OK in terms of security.

No it doesn't. For protectionism: if you do anything to your car outside Switzerland you are supposed to declare it at the border and pay the swiss VAT on it.

BMW topic: for major service I go to Waldshut, where there is a BMW dealer (can't remember the name but it can be found easily on the bmw website). Prices are significantly lower than those at the swiss BMW dealers.

Re: Wanted - garage recommendations for BMW repair work Geneva

Hi I am in the same position again, looking for a place to get some work done an e46 bmw that isnt going to cost more than the car is worth!

I am near Geneva, have looked up the Lorrach gargae and that seems to be a good 2.5 hrs drive away.

Anyone have any experience of Puis Buchs in Meyrin?

I am thinking it could be a lot cheaper just to drive back to the uk and have work done

Any advice gladly accepted

thanks

that one in meyrin or the one in acacias are good .. do not go to the one in annemasse as it is appalling in terms of cost and customer service
