non EU driving in Switzerland

my girlfriend is Jordanian and has a Jordanian driving license (the license is written in arabic AND english). Is she able to drive my car (swiss plates)? i know foreigners can drive for 1 year on their license, but does this also apply to a non EU license?

if she needs an international driving license, i have heard she can get hold of one in Switzerland, is this true?

thanks

Re: non EU driving in Switzerland

All foreigners can drive on their foreign licence for up to a year.
In my canton the advice is that an international driving licence is recommended, especially if the national licence isn't in French, German, Italian or English. But it isn't obligatory. If you want one you can get them in Switzerland.

Re: non EU driving in Switzerland

thanks for the info,

however something came into my mind. her student b permit has an original date of entry from 2006. she is getting a new one this semester, in a few weeks and like every student b permit she gets, it has the original date of entry and date of entry for the current permit.
as she only passed her test and received her license a month or two ago, will they count the one year from her original date of entry, or from when she got her license?

thanks guys

I always thought the international driving licence has to be issued in the same country as the driving licence, ie by the relevant Jordanian authority in your girlfriend's case?

Re: non EU driving in Switzerland

I have the same case
I have Jordanian driving license ,,, when I asked about it in my canton
The police officer told me that I can drive for one year “from the Permit issue date”
By using my original driving license OR by using the international one)
After this period I have to issue Swiss driving license “pass the driving test”
Without the theoretical or writing test

In case of failure, I have to pass both of (theoretical & driving test)

The End : I passed the driving test and got the Swiss driving license
