Re: Driving test in Wettingen---> any experiences to share?

I did a few lessons with an instructor before doing the test- I recommend this as they're all mates and the first thing the tester-guy did is ask the instructor about me.

1) don't get snooty with either the instructor of the tester, and say "but in laa-laa land we do it this way..
2) indicate going off the round about but not on
3) do a 3 point check at every intersection for bikes - rear view mirror, side mirror, then turn around.
4) learn the places in Wettingen that look like roundabouts but are actually "give way to the right" intersections - 2 that I can think of are in Kirchstrasse and near the Altenburg school.
5) stay 30 in the 30k zones (see posts on speeding)
6) stop at every zebra crossing with pedestrians - i dont think this rule applies to zurcher..
7) learn the places where the little mirror at the top of a post helps you look around corners (theres one in Ennetbaden - had that in my test)
8) ALWAYS give way to the right (and make an effort to look down the road on the right) when not on a "main" road
9)ALWAYS REMEMBER that the point of the exercise is to pass the test(!)- you fail it once, you have to pay an extra 3000chf to go thru the whole dam procedure, lessons etc - better to pay a little upfront for some local lessons. (and dont nark off the tester..*)

years ago I had a Brazilian friend who did nark off the tester, made 1 error (which didnt involve a fatality ) and the guy failed him on the spot.

i am sure others have more to add, or from other villages?
isn't it grand that every village has their own tests.. real job creation

Hi all,

I did my test today and passed.
It was easy and took place for 15 mins.
The expert took me to the highway from Wettigen in the direction of Zurich and back to Wettingen. Also took me to a 30 zone area.

Hi,
I have to appear for a drive test at Wettingen before Jan 2010 for getting swiss drive license. I have an Indian driving license and live close to Siggenthal station. I am thinking of taking some driving lessons before I go for drive test. Could you please advise me where to take the driving lessons...and also some tips to pass the drive test. Thanking you,

Re: Driving test in Wettingen---> any experiences to share?

Man I can't drive.
I regret I didn't do the how learning thing when I was younger and in my native country.
But I think It may be a good idea to try and learn now.
But then again maybe not...

Hi,

I had some driving sessions with Rudolf. He can speak English very well. Here is his address.
Rudolf Fahrschule und Schulungscenter
Industriestrasse 3 • 5522 Tägerig • Tel 0795996100
Do you have driving experience. Because if you had some experience , then the test is very easy for you.
Some important tips.
1. Always turn your had and watch the road while turning left or right.
2. Maintain the speed mentioned.
3. On the highway speed up to 100 or 120kmph depending on the highway.
4. Do not break while exiting the highway, break only after you exit.

Hope this helps for your test.
All the best

Re: Driving test in Wettingen---> any experiences to share?

Hello,
Thank you very much for your kind information. I would definitely take classes from him before I go for test. Could you please kindly clarify the following:
Can we go for drive test with automatic transmission? or Is it that manual transmission compulsory. I am bit nervous with manual gear system. The drive test can be taken on rented car (from mobility or Europcar)?
How many classes do you think is sufficient from the instructor? (I am not really an expert in driving...I know only minimum with driving). Any idea about the price per class.

Thanking you,
Regards,

Yes you can do the test with an automatic transmission car.
Yes it's upto you to take a rented car or a friend's car for the test.
If you are like a beginner, then you need a min. of 10 classes. Finally it depends upon your talent.
The price per class with Rudolf is 95chf per 45min. class.
It's expensive, but it's worth it.

All the best.

Re: Driving test in Wettingen---> any experiences to share?

Before the test in Wettingen I took some lessons with Jörg Varnhold, he speaks English and can train you with German commands.

If you are experienced driver, but not in Switzerland, I would recommend taking up to 6-8 lessons. More than that is not really useful. It is important to know the area, so also just drive around in your or rented car. Practice driving "the Swiss way" taking into account all of the tips mentioned above.

The route of my Kontrollfahrt is attached.
