Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum. I was in Zurich and Luzern last weekend, totally unaware of the strict speeding limits. I drove from Germany and was in the same frame of mind. After driving there and noticing so many cameras, I got so nervous. Now reading this forum has made me more worried as I was not too cautious to stick to the limit.
I want to know if I could have possibly got any fines though I never did see the "flash". I remember that possibly I oversped in a tunnel near St Gallen.
What can I expect? Its an Europcar. Is there any way for me to check online if there is any fines to my car registration number? I would pay up and clear it immediately. I dont want it to be recorded as it is a company rented car.

Modern cameras do not always flash. I don't think the authorities attitude to speeding is any different in Germany - or any other country in the 'western' world.

There is no way to know in advance if you were caught. Europcar will advise the police of the details you supplied. (I got a ticket from Australia in a Europcar rental last year).

My dad got flashed last year driving a Europcar, they sent the bill to him in the UK which he paid and that was the end of that. I'm not aware of anyway to check in advance if you were caught.

Any idea on how long does it take for the police to send the notice??

Could be 10 days to a couple of months depending on how long it takes then to track you down...

Alternatively, the police sends it to the rental company which in turn forwards it to you, adding a nice hefty admin fee in the process.

Also you could be lucky.
I got myself nailed by speed camera's about 5 times driving through Germany last year, didn't hear anything about it.

This make I laugh.

I was flashed driving at a shamefully high speed near Basel. This was over a year ago and still havent heard anything, thanks god. Maybe rain and luxembourgish plates helped too.. with swiss plates one should be thoroughly and utterly screwed once the flash has gone off, as far as I have come to understand.
