I have 2 geminde tageskartes for Friday and I just wanted to confirm details on them.

I understand that they are like a 1 day GA allowing travel all over Switzerland.

Are they treated the same as normal GAs for special rail-lines. i.e. do they allow half fares up Pilatus or include other mountain railways that would be included in a normal GA

Sorry if it seems a silly question I just can't find it confirmed anywhere and 30chf seems cheap to include all that.

you got it for CHF30 ? I suppose from another canton, as here in Zurich it costs chf 42 ??

There was an article in the (Zürich) Tages-Anzeiger yesterday with a list of Parishes in Canton Zürich giving all the different prices charged, whether the card was also available for folk who live outside the parish and whether they would be sent to the buyer by mail. Some places only allow 'outsiders' to buy them close to the relevant date. Like nearly everything else in this country, it all varies from parish to parish.

Mostly, they cost between Fr.30.- and Fr.40.- In smaller parishes the cards tend to be at the higher end of the scale; the demand isn’t very high and the council may be left 'holding the baby' as it were. Seems that Dänikon, if it has any left, cuts its losses by selling them off at the last minute for Fr.20.-

The Fr.42.- mentioned by Pickles is, according to the article, not ‘Zürich city', Zürich doesn’t buy its own, but a private organisation which buys them and makes them available to folk living in the city and tourists alike. They aren’t letting on how many they have though, as a whole group of tourists once asked for them.

In case anyone is interested, 86 Parishes in Canton Zürich have about 300 between them to sell and the cards are sold to the parish by the SBB or another Public Transport Organisation in a complete ‘set’ for the whole year; each set costs Fr.9775.-

1 day GA ( Tageskarte ) averaging CHF40 a day. For some it might make sense to get a whole year's GA ( CHF8.50 a day ). To each their own.

I just found an overview over whether the day passes are available on a given day and for a given Gemeeinde, on the internet. Could be useful.
