MFK for new EU import with CoC?

Hi
First of all, I should point out that I've searched for an answer to this question but haven't quite found what I'm looking for so apologies if the answer is out there but I've overlooked it.

I'm intending to register an 11 month old car, purchased new in France. It was imported as part of our household so customs etc was no problem and the paperwork is all in order.

My question is, will the car need to pass the swiss inspection/test (mfk?) even though it has a Certificat de Conformité and is less than a year old? (first test not due in France until 4 years!) I got the impression from the Strassenverkehrsamt that it would but I may not have understood properly (German no that great) so I'd be interested to know if anyone on EF has been in a similar position.

Thanks for any info

Re: MFK for new EU import with CoC?

it must go through the complete import process in order to get Swiss plates. So they will check it conforms to Swiss requirements, check that the parts are all OEM and check the emissions.

It's a foreign car becoming Swiss. If you hear a "ker-ching" process throughout the process, you may not be mistaken.

Thanks Boxman. Not what I was hoping for but what I expected.

OK.... so obtaining a CoC would appear to be a pointless waste of time And even though mine was free, it seems that some EF members have had to pay quite a bit for theirs

I'm looking forward to this bit. The car's a Hybrid. Let's see if it's clean enough to be Swiss

Yeeeesss....still not at all happy about having to test the Honda. I bought it in France but it was built in Japan and shipped over, if I'd bought it in Switzerland it still would have been built in Japan, no doubt to the same specs, and shipped over. What a con

Can anyone explain the point of the Certificat de Conformité if the car has to be tested regardless?

Re: MFK for new EU import with CoC?

From reading various forum posts, I'm getting the impression that vehicles imported as part of one's household effects are exempt from some of the testing that normally occurs. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
