Re: CHF 350 fine for passing a red light

I'm sure I crossed just as it went orange. Got the the double red flash and now I'm waiting for the fine. (Chf 250.00 I think).
I did not drive over with no care and disregard though. Think I was driving to slow really. Suppose sometimes you just get the timing wrong.
Now I will have to work extra hours making up the money.
I'm from Gauteng, South Africa and nearly got T-boned many times coming home late at night from a gig (DJ) there. There the system is corrupt and red light skipping is common. Pedestrian crossings are ignored and you can get yelled at for halting traffic. Road rage is common and people have little patience.

I'm so happy with all the control here (Switzerland) because I feel safe driving here. In fact I have become a much better driver because of Switzerland.
Some cantons here in Switzerland have more cameras than others. They have been put up because of some idiots that have no respect for the law and safety of the public. Control is important.

Watch the following clip to see what happens when a red light is skipped by a driver who obtained his licence fraudulently through a corrupt system.

WARNING not for the faint hearted!

Re: CHF 350 fine for passing a red light

my small contribution to the thread,
after a long trip back to Zurich, go to the red light on Wasserwerkstr. on the left lane. Right lane was green and both going to "City" so I switched and got flashed by the red light camera.
Offense date: 30/08/15
Fine received: 26/09/15
Fine: CHF 100-. for crossing the solid line (no mention of red light)

Does every traffic light have one of these red light cameras?

No, but don't rely on a particular intersection not having them at a particular time, they are not difficult to install on short notice.

You can usually see them quite easily as boxes with openings for the flash and lens positioned strategically such that it can capture faces & license plates.

Re: CHF 350 fine for passing a red light

Just got home from my first driving experience in Zürich, and I'm expecting a fine too.
Not much to be done about it, but boy, do I need to vent.

A bloody messy intersection just before General Guisan Quai, me on the center lane, traffic lights overhead. Just as I'm about to cross under the lights, they turn yellow. So, I would either break suddenly, and land under the lights, or pass on yellow. Except the bloody yellow didn't last anywhere near the amount of time I'm used to, apparently, and I get flashed by about 6 cameras. I instinctively look overhead, the traffic lights over me almost out of line of sight, and yes, the damned things were all on red.

So next time, you can be sure I'm hitting the breaks as soon as yellow comes on, regardless if the car behind might come careening into me or not.

And I was in a Mobility rental too, just to exponentiate the embarrassment. Ah well.

Don't worry. This is what most people actually expect from Mobility drivers

Haha, that does lift my spirits a bit.

Although, to be honest, I'm most miffed about the fact that I was just coming back from picking up a huge table I bought on Ricardo for 1CFH. Guess it got quite more expensive now...

Re: CHF 350 fine for passing a red light

running a red light here hurts. Got even fined CHF 60 on my bicycle for running a yellow light - for security reasons from my point of view, in order to get clear of the nasty motorists lined up behind me.

Re: CHF 350 fine for passing a red light

We've noticed that when you drive in to Zurich the red lights change much faster than when you are living the city and of course it is very expensive even if you are 0.7 sec on the red light because someone before you decided to slow down...
