Tinting question

Does anyone know if you can put window tint on your vehicles? If so what the regulations might be regarding which windows and how dark?

Re: Tinting question

Yes you can !! I have my windows tinted dark but the driver and passenger windows are tinted medium. I got them done at the garage where I bought my car and it cost about 1.000.0 chf.

Re: Tinting question

However, don't tint any lights on your car! This is not allowed and is one of the laws that are strictly enforced by the police, at least in Zürich.

Re: Tinting question

As far as I know, the windscreen is a no-no, the front side windows can be tinted to a degree, and anything behind the B Pillar can be as dark as you want. Be aware though, if your front driver's and passenger windows are marked with 'AS2', they are already tinted to the legal maximum.

AS2? Is that something the manufacturer places on the window if they add tint?

1.barried

A 'barried' car is a car which has been pointlessly modified; i.e. the only changes are visual, there's no performance increase. Barry tends to target pov cars with tiny engines such as Corsas/Puntos, he'll adorn them with cheap hideous and badly fitting after-market body kits, baked bean can 'zorsts, fake BMW M3 mirrors, Lexus-style lights, Meccano spoilers, bargain bin alloys from Halfrauds, subwoofers, etc. The copious amounts of filler plastered over the cracks is also a dead giveaway.

Please let it be a Nova ....

Re: Tinting question

A receptionist where I used to work was a lovely girl, but she wasn't at the front of the queue when they were giving out brains. She was really excited about her new boyfriend and his Nova SRi. She was seriously impressed by its bodykit and subwoofer and lime green paintjob. After five minutes of listening to this I realised she hadn't said anything about what he was like, just his wheels, and I only knew he was Kevin because she described his car sun visor...

Re: Tinting question

Right now a MINI, but my wife is expecting and we need a 4 door. Currently looking into the volvo S60. Why do you ask? The reason I wish to tint is two fold. First, privacy. I don't want people walking by looking what I might have inside. Second, helps keep the car a bit cooler during the summer.

Re: Tinting question

ensure you get the job done properly - windows removed, treated, put back in. You don't want a gammy peel-job

I get your point, but in all fairness it's not just a normal s60 volvo. It's the 220kw (300 hp) R series with the sports package and a few modifications from my side. Hope that meets the standard.

Re: Tinting question

Its still a Volvo, and combined with tinted-glass will scream mid-life crisis. What you need is 444 with the 4 on the floor.

Ah, yes, the S60R, one of Volvo's most resounding flops.

Why so? I am more than willing to listen to your opinions on the car. From what I have seen on the web it has a good reliability history.

Rear wheels tramlining, sidestepping and suspension squeaks - needs change in parts (bushings, suspension arms) to (sort of) fix.

Engine torque reduced with the auto gearbox.

Geartronic box needs either a B4 valve change or changed completely depending on luck.

Engine power output seldom reaches advertised power (this was a big issue some time back, you might remember at the time Mazda restating power figures for the rx7, whereas Volvo didn't).

Brake rotors very susceptible to warping.

I could go on and on.

Get a T5, chip it up to 300 with PPC and you're all set for way less cash.

Not that I don't believe you but let's get some additional info here. What leads you to believe the rotors warp? Generally rotors only warp if you are too hard on them, or they are seriously under sized. If so then the same applies to the T5 since the rotors are the same as I know it.

As for the wheels and Geartronic problem do you have an sources that might show these specifically?

The T5 option is available, however I lose my transmission warranty by changing the chip. Also, you sure just a chip change is the only difference between the R engine and T5 engine which equates to over 50hp?
