| | Big engine cars
anyone drive a big size American engine? Like V8 5.7l (1995 if it matters)
Are they really that much more expensive to register/ insurance. Im in the canton of VD.
I really miss the US cars , used to have a big suburban and it was the most reliable thing I ever owned....
And please leave the neg. comments about driving big vehicles.
Thanks

The taxes in the canton of Vaud used to be based on the size of engine, more info here: http://www.san.vd.ch/taxes.htm
I drive a Mercedes AMG and the taxes were quite high.
Now the taxes are based on the power and weight of the car. Which still continues to be high since AMG's are high power engines, and Mercedes' in general weigh a lot.
But for some pleasures in life, I'm willing to pay...
I think a typical hemi or similar equipped large American truck will set you back over 1000chf a year due to them being very heavy, and typically having over 300hp on tap.

very helpfull site,
Looking into the American trucks cause they are fast and can perform offroad. and you can load a ton in them.
If that means paying a bit more every year than so be it I guess.
$thanks again, ive been looking for a site like that.

AIUI, US cars have big engines because tthe quality of the petrol is - well, variable. They have to be big so they can deal with any old crap, and still move.
Whereas European engineers, given the luxury of consistently high quality petrol, can get 500bhp out of a 2ml engine. ( Please check the dictionary definition of hyperbole before flaming ).
I do stand to be corrected though.

How about parking though? Thats another thing to consider when buying a car. Unless you also use public transport you will find it impossible sometimes to park in the city (at least in Geneva were i live)

Although I have never been that much into American cars, there are a couple of current models I find strangely appealing (Mustang, Corvette and the Camaro). http://www.us-carconnection.ch/ is just up the road from us.

Thanks | | | | | Get the BMW 540 or 740/745.... Now that is a sweet V8. Easier to fix/insure/service and just look at the power and torque outputs compared to anything State side.
