[Zurich tram] Underground station - Safe?

Hi there Zurich residents.

Has anyone of you been living in the area where Tram 7 and Tram 9 go underground. If yes, could you tell me if it is safe to go underground in the mornings and getting out in the evenings without having creepy thoughts?

Would appreciate comments as I am considering moving to that neighbourhood.

Thanks

I would recommend getting a flat in the area rather than living underground...

Re: Underground station - Safe?

my in-laws live around there, and I get out right before the 7/9 tunnel to go home. I thought the underground bit was creepy at first too, but the three stops that are below ground - Waldgarten, Tierspital and Schoerlistrasse (I visit my in-laws often ) - aren't considered to be particularly unsafe. Having said that, I wouldn't recommend dawdling down there though.

However, Milchbuck, the station immediately before the tunnel, is considered by some to be a bit rough at night. I've never observed it myself, but have seen smashed bottles and the like the next morning near the tram stops.

I've lived near Milchbuck for over three years and never seen or heard any trouble there - and I do pass through there at an ungodly hour probably far more often than I should. A friend of mine lives near the Tierspital stop and when she first moved there, would go home on the Milchbuck-Oerlikon trams instead and get out at Berninaplatz instead because she was concerned about the underground issue too, but no longer does and to my knowledge has never had any trouble there.

Obviously, this does not mean that nothing has ever or will ever happen, but I would certainly say that there is no more trouble than anywhere else in town. I'd much rather hang around Milchbuck or the Tierspital of an evening than I would the Limmatplatz - or even Central.

Just my £0.02. . .

Yes a happy accident, by voting against the cost of an underground, Zurich was saved from another piss-stinking subway system and above ground was kept more human friendly, rather than car friendly. Bravo.

I've lived by the waldgarten stop for over a year and 8 months now and i've never seen or heard of anything bad going on there. its always brightly lit and there are cctv cameras aswell as personal alarm buttons there.
I wouldn't worry.

That's quite comforting although I still have not made up my mind totally but having a wider choice without worrying about the security would really help.
