UK to Swiss Driving Licence questions

Hi, after reading 20 odd pages of the above sticky, there was no recent information to help me.

I am off back to UK on 27th december for a week and desperately need to hire a car. However, I have 9 points and nobody will touch me.

I know if you trade your UK licence in for a Swiss one, the points do not appear, therefore this is my only option.

So, I believe if it's a UK licence you can walk in and walk out, the turn arround is fairly cheap, is this correct? Has anyone got recent information about this. I am in Olten, can someone point me in the right direction please?

Cheers

Re: UK to Swiss Driving Licence questions

If you want to swap ur licence and have it for the 27th you'd better pull ur finger out and get down the Strassenverkehrsamt asap.
I don't think you'll have enough time to get the new one back.

Re: UK to Swiss Driving Licence questions

Strassenverkehrsamt can turn around a CH licence in 7 days (apparently).

You need to go on-line, print-off the appropriate form, take it to an opticians, get them to complete their bit then fill in the rest of the form and take it to the Strassenverkehrsamt along with your resid permit & UK drivers licence.

Some of your UK entitlements (like 3.5 ton van & trailier) might take you into CH commercial van territory. Make sure you avoid ticking these as otherwise you will need a medical ... and this will take longer!

A.

Then you get it back by post- you have a weekend and holidays stuck in the middle, touch and go at this stage.
