Car Insurance in Switzerland

Hi,

I need to bring an Italian car with me when I move to Switzerland. I have insurance bought in Italy valid until June. I am English, with a full UK driving licence.

1) Will my UK drivers license be enough to use in Switzerland or is there some new test I will need to take?

2) Am I correct in thinking I will need new insurance to drive my car in Switzerland?

3) Do I need to re-register the car in any way to be road legal?

4) Is there car tax to pay, can I do that online?

5) Any insurance company reccomendations for UK nationals in Switzerland? (aged 31)

Thanks a lot!!!!!!!

Hi,

I need to bring an Italian car with me when I move to Switzerland. I have insurance bought in Italy valid until June. I am English, with a full UK driving licence.

1) Will my UK drivers license be enough to use in Switzerland or is there some new test I will need to take? Yes it is fine although it has to be changed to a swiss licence after one year here. No test required if done before the end of the one year.

2) Am I correct in thinking I will need new insurance to drive my car in Switzerland? You can drive the car here on foreign plates for upto 1year. Then it has to be registered and have Swiss plates. The you get Swiss Ins. You may have to do it ealier if you cam't extend ur current policy.

3) Do I need to re-register the car in any way to be road legal? As long as it is road legal already in Italy you should be fine. Until the 1st year is up.

4) Is there car tax to pay, can I do that online? If you have owned it for more than 6months you should be fine.

5) Any insurance company reccomendations for UK nationals in Switzerland? (aged 31) I used Zurich Connect for my UK Jeep Wrangler

Thanks a lot!!!!!!!
