| Hi,
Has anybody experience in how to prove the origin of a car being imported
(owned less than 6 months) to obtain the preferred rate of import duty?
Is a EUR1 really necessary (e.g. if car is obvioulsy made in Europe) and if so, how can one get it filled in if the car was sold privately?
thanks, | |

Yes its necessary otherwise you'll be taxed, we where even though the car's an MG, we couldn't 'prove' is was made in england.
iirc you have to get the eur1 from the country your exporting it from which involved popping along to your local tax office in the uk asking for it and paying there fee again iirc £150. In our case it wasn't worth the cost and hassle so we just paid the import duty here
just so you know, the tax office here classed our car as being american made so we got the full hit of import duty, even though its an mg, the v5 states its english the vin plate states its english etc etc, without the eur1 form its american, you have to laugh otherwise you'll hit someone
