| | Defeating speed cameras.
Nerdy one, wonder if it would work.
It looks like a Zurich plate.

Nice idea. I remember that someone was selling anti-speed camera polish or something for Swiss license plates a couple of years back. No idea what the scam was exactly, but I wouldn't volunteer to be their guinea pig.

You can get that in the uk too, its a reflective laquer, so when you get filmed the plate looks blank, the police will tell you it doesn't work and is a waste of money. Yet on one of those documentries that follow the police they clearly showed a car that had it applied and it was working on that!! They did the bloke for having illegal plates, the monitor in there car clearly showed a blank plate yet they could see the plate, was quite comical.

A friend (really) years ago had an idea to mount a "remote slave flash" as close as possible to his plate. The idea was that the speed camera flash would activate the slave flash straight back at the camera, "blinding" out the plate area.
Haven't a clue if it would ever work. Probably as effective as the OP's photo |

And on a similar note: Der Bund testet der Superfalle
They are going to start testing a new average speed radar system on the autobahns in Switzerland. Article states that they will be able to control the average speed of every one driving by over an 8 mile stretch of road..!
Obviously we're inching closer and closer to zero tolerance radar boxes.. | The following 2 users would like to thank for this useful post: | |

The UK frequently uses them around road works.

They have this system on the main road from Belfast to Bangor in NI, which was notorious for accidents. My Dad-in-law is vociferously critical of it, but it has reduced the number of serious prnags along that road.

If it just sits in a record, it could trigger later when it is retrieved.

Probably as effective as the OP's photo | | | | | That's too funny- a friend of mine did the same thing, with a flash over the plates as well as one in the car for his face. I had the pleasure of sitting in the car while he used a bunch of pro photo equipment to test it (sitting idle). I don't know if he ever actually implemented it though.

Puts me in mind of the Top Gear episode when Clarkson is racing Hammond and May across Japan...Apparently in Japan, the speed camera has to have a clear photo of the face. Clarkson used a Bill Oddie mask in order to avoid the fines. |

How about some of that material that turns opaque when you apply a current to it. Could link it with a detector to switch it only only when you get a very bright light, as in a flash from a camera. Cause would rely on split second timing; but may be very effective.
